Team Marleau! Hammered! chooses in the 6th round, 93rd overall, in the CENTER 3 position,
Sergei Fedorov

Quote:
Sergei Viktorovich Fedorov (Russian: Сергей Викторович Фёдоров, Sergey Viktorovich Fyodorov; born December 13, 1969 in Pskov, Soviet Union) is a Russian professional ice hockey forward and occasional defenseman[1] who plays for the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League. He gained fame playing for the Detroit Red Wings before tenures with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and Columbus Blue Jackets. On October 25, 2008, Fedorov set a record for most goals by a Russian-born NHL player, scoring his 475th goal.

In a 2006 interview, former Red Wing head coach Scotty Bowman said, "[Fedorov was] one of my favorite players as a coach because he can do anything [asked of him on ice]." Bowman coached nine of Fedorov's thirteen seasons with Detroit. During the late 1990s, Bowman experimented by using Fedorov on defense and pairing him with Larry Murphy. The Red Wings senior vice-president Jim Devellano said, "I’m convinced if we left him there, he’d have won a Norris Trophy".[2] Although he was effective playing defense, Fedorov stated that he would rather play up front. This did not prevent Blue Jackets head coach Ken Hitchcock from moving Fedorov back to defense on occasion.

Sergei claimed he and tennis star Anna Kournikova were married in 2001, but later divorced in 2003.[7] However, Kournikova's representatives deny any marriage to Fedorov.
Moreover, Kournikova denies being Pavel Bure's "sloppy seconds."

This thread really sucks when you make a pick at midnight and need to sleep, yet you are supposed to go back and update it by 0730!

I did not notice that Windom had picked earlier, the thread title said he was up, or I would have picked earlier.
My fault, I should have opened the thread itself

For my second centre position, we are pleased to select from the Buffalo Sabres,

Gilbert Perreault

17 glorious seasons, though not blessed with great teams while he was in Buffalo, he was one of the best players of his day.

Centre of the famed and feared French Connection line.

Hall of famer, who also represented Canada. Original member of the Sabres, holder of all important Sabre scoring records, and first Sabre to have his number, 11, retired.

Just to be clear, Habernac has until 2:52 p.m. to make his pick. I wouldn't want Habby to take a peak and see the second Perreault post, thinking he has a bunch more time (11:28 p.m.) before Czure can sneak in and steal a pick.

I could see the two Perreault posts easily confusing someone.

People to remember this is supposed to be fun and relaxing. If we start turning it into a second job, we're just going to be kicking ourselves in the teeth.

Team Toe Blake is happy to select, for Left wing #1 Steve Shutt

Born Stephen John Shutt in Willowdale, Ontario, Canada, as a youngster he displayed hockey skills that led to him playing for the Toronto Marlboros of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). With the Marlboros, Steve Shutt, Dave Gardner and Billy Harris formed one of the most potent lines in OHL history. In 1971 Shutt was named to the league's Second All-Star Team and the following season to its First All-Star Team.

Shutt was drafted by Montreal of the National Hockey League (NHL) for the 1972–73 season. In 1976–77, Shutt was a key member of the Canadiens team that compiled the best regular season record in league history, losing only 8 games during an 80 game schedule. Partnered with Jacques Lemaire and Guy Lafleur to form the top line in the NHL, Shutt scored 60 goals, a league record for left-wingers that stood until the 1992–93 season when Luc Robitaille scored 63 goals, a record that has since been broken by Alexander Ovechkin's 65 goals in the 2007-08 season. During his career with Montreal, he was named to the NHL First All-Star team in 1977, and the NHL Second All-Star team in 1978 and 1980

I'm not asking this to be a job, I just wish some people would put forth a little more effort, that's all

Even if for your pick you just put, "To keep things moving I pick Iginla" that is fine, just come back and update it later.
I know there are people that do not keep up on this when they know they are not going to pick for a week, they then scan through to see who is picked and go off that and it is easy to miss a one line post when you are just scanning.

Well then, why don't you volunteer to help girlysports with updating the draft board so it not just one person doing all the work.

And it does take a lot of time to put info in your pick when you make a pick on a blackberry standing in the middle of an onion farm by Taber.

Really it is not that hard to figure who was pick cause there is a draft order so you should be able to see if you missed a pick scrolling through by using the draft order.

As others said, it just for fun. There is no money on the line or anything and this draft is low on the priority list of things that need to get done.

Not trying to be mean to you are anybody else.

Thanks

"search this thread" is your friend...
and I dont mean that specifically for you, but for everyone, as Im sure its very time consuming for GS to update the board, and its not like its going to be done in real time anyways

also Ill have my two picks up in a moment

I have to preface my selection by saying: I am a little embarassed to be making this pick with the last pick of round 6...
not because he's a bad player, or because I despise him, but rather because we all fail (myself included) when doing an all time draft and letting him fall to the 96th pick
Whats even worse, I still almost considered letting him go in favour of someone else

I suppose the only reason for him falling so far, is that its easy to get lost in the shadow of your more famous older brother

From Montreal, Quebec

Center: Joseph Henri "The pocket Rocket" Richard

After selecting Henri Richard at 96th, its a big debate as to where to go next, the player I was going to pass Richard over for, or the next pick I had in mind before
Ultimately I imagine I can only get one, and the curses will be brought out for whomever selects the one that I pass over
In the end, championships are built on defence, and he is one of the most decorated and respected Dmen around

for the first pick in round 7, 97th overall
From Moscow, Russia

Defenceman: Viacheslav Fetisov

oh...and he also helped pave the way for other soviets to join the NHL

good picks, Czure. I had both high on my list at this point. I waffled on Richard only because I half expected a run on LW instead of C after my pick. And Fetisov, he was the heart of those tough Soviet teams, dynamite when on with Kasatonov and KLM.

Team Toe Blake selects, in the goalie #2 spot, Bill Durnan

William Ronald (Bill) Durnan (born January 22, 1916, in Toronto, Ontario - October 31, 1972) was a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who played for the Montreal Canadiens in the National Hockey League (NHL). Durnan was an ambidextrous goalie, equally adept at using his right or left hand (he wore special gloves that permitted him to catch with either hand while still holding his stick). Until Roberto Luongo was named captain of the Vancouver Canucks on September 30, 2008, he was the last goalie to be a captain in the National Hockey League. Including Luongo, he is one of only seven ever.
Durnan, whom John McGourty of NHL.com refers to as "the greatest nearly forgotten player in the history of the NHL,"[1] only played seven seasons in the NHL, but accomplished much in his short career. Durnan was the recipient of the Vezina Trophy as top goaltender in each of his first four seasons, from 1944 to 1947, becoming the first to capture the award in four successive seasons. A poor season by the Montreal Canadiens in 1948 allowed Turk Broda of the Toronto Maple Leafs to end Durnan's streak. However, Durnan returned to prominence the next season, capturing his fifth and sixth Vezina Trophies in 1949 and 1950. Durnan would also be selected to the First Team All-Star 6 times during his career, including 4 consecutive selections from 1944–47.[2] Following the 1949–50 NHL season, at the age of 35, Durnan abruptly retired, no longer able to stand the stress of playing professional hockey. He later went into coaching, most notably with the Ottawa Senators of the QSHL in 1950–51, and the Kitchener-Waterloo Dutchmen of the OHA in 1958–59.
Durnan set a long-standing modern NHL record between February 26 and March 6, 1949, when he amassed four consecutive shutouts, not allowing a goal over a span of 309 minutes, 21 seconds. This record was not surpassed until 2004, when Brian Boucher, then of the Phoenix Coyotes, broke it.
He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1964. In 383 regular-season games, Durnan had 208 wins, and 112 losses, with 34 shutouts and a 2.36 goals-against average. He had 27 wins, and 12 losses, with 2 shutouts and a 2.07 average in 45 playoff games. Durnan also won the 1940 Allan Cup with the Kirkland Lake Blue Devils. He would die of kidney failure on October 31, 1972. He suffered from diabetes in his last years and his health had been failing steadily.

Awards
First All-Star Team goalie in 1944, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1949, 1950.
Won the Vezina Trophy in 1944, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1949, 1950.
Played in NHL All-Star Game in 1947, 1948, 1949 Stanley Cup Champion 1944, 1946 In spite of the relative brevity of his career, in 1998, he was ranked number 34 on The Hockey News' list of the 100 Greatest Hockey Players.
