Default Sports Select How to play?

I am not sure if we are allowed to talk about gambling on the site, so if it is lock it right away. Just curious as to how to play these things. I am not "pro" or anything but I am decent at deciding who win games, etc. just thought about putting a few bucks (nothing major) into it. Any help would be appreciated. I tried the actual site, but still confused.

Again, if we aren't allowed to talk about this stuff, lock away.

don't use sports select find a online bookie, they're legit and you actually get decent odds.

I don't think so.

Canada has a unique policy structure with respect to gambling. It differs from many international counterparts as gambling operates exclusively under the control of the provincial and territorial governments. These governments work within the limitations of the Criminal Code to offer gambling options that the market and the political environment demand. Charities, First Nations and private operators also benefit from gambling in Canada by providing provincially-authorized gambling activities through operational arrangements.

That doesn't sound not legit to me. IMO though, it is way easier to make money betting online (pinnaclesports.com) than Sports Select. I think Sports Select is a farce. Too hard to win, and doesn't pay out nearly enough.

I think it is illegal to gamble in Canada, except through approved government programs?

Really? That would surprise me, with all the Bowman's ads that run on the Fan. I wouldn't expect such an advertising campaign for something that's illegal.

It might be, I don't know. Not sure how that can be regulated or enforced though.

Not sure that applies to a persons right to gamble or run a gambling establishment, but regardless.

Some of these online wagering establishments are Canadian. The Kahnawake Gaming Commision is on a Mohawk reserve outside of Montreal if memory serves.

http://www.kahnawake.com/gamingcommission/permits.asp

The preceeding link contains a list of all the permit holders for various online gaming companies, poker, casinos, sports betting, bingo, you name it.

One of the bigger ones listed there. www.bodoglife.com has all sorts of gambling options, including a relatively good sportsbook.

So in summary they are legit.

I just checked it out. When I tried to sign up and picked my country as Canada A box popped up asking for my email so they could tell me when it would be available in Canada.

So in summary I don't think it's legit.

Online gambling in Canada is legal, Bodog is indeed a legit site which just for some reason doesn't allow Canadian signups, i don't remember the reasons why but there are some poker rooms which did this as well while back, however, old accounts were grandfathered over believe it has something to do with using Cryptologic software

if you're into sports betting, http://www.therx.com/ is for you.

Do you research stick with the big books and you won't have any issues.

I find parlays to be a suckers bet, also, sports select has a lot of other questionable rules when it comes to wins losses ties etc

Bet365.com and dcsc.com are the two best sportsbooks for payouts in Canada. Don't waste your money on Sports Select.

The most satisfying bets are straight-up bets with buddies. He takes San Jose. I take Calgary. Loser has to eat a jar of pickled onions. You could also bet money, if you're into that thing. Either way, it's a zero sum bet, so everyone wins.

I work in online gaming, and it is NOT legal in Canada. All gaming must be run through the provinces. Online gaming is not licensed nor regulated by either the provincial or federal governments.

Some large sites with huge backing can afford to allow Canadians to use their sites, and get away with it. Those of us who work for public companies and are smaller aren't so lucky.

if Cam and Gabe use it, I would have to assume it the best.

Although, they do have a monopoly on Canadian shows about sports gambling.

its a little old but I don't believe that the law has changed since then, as I have been gambling both poker and sports books casually over the last 5 years and I know sports select is a rip off, you can get much better odds online and you don't have to parlay all your bets, minimum 3 parlay with SS isn't it?

highlights:
Quote:
But there are few statistics on how much was spent on online gambling, since the industry is in a legal grey zone in Canada.
...

In Canada, federal criminal law appears to outlaw setting up a site for online gaming.
...
But the average Canadian consumer may not be breaking the law when they log on. Toronto lawyer Zak Muscovitch says, "What is illegal is to operate a common betting house. It's the proprietor of the casino that is the person breaking the law. There is no actual law that would prevent a consumer from using the site."
so not illegal. Just dont run one unless you are in the Caribbean or on a Native reserve because they can do whatever they want.

All of Bowmans ads are for the handicapping contest. Which is clearly not gambling, but a way to get people to the site to partake of the gambling. This is all based out of Canada, and is not legal.

There are reservation based online casinos, which are able to function legally, much in the same way that Grey Eagle casino is run. There are different rules for Natives on the reserve in this regard.
