I usually won't drive if I've had more than 3 drinks.
However if the time period is stretched out quite a bit I might allow a few more, or vise versa, if I have slammed back 3 really quickly I won't drive either. But generally if I've had 3 or more I won't drive.

Good question... I'll usually hang up the keys at 3. Unless its spread out over several hours, then I might go to 4, but only if its beer, and thats also a rarity...

Zero. It's zero tolerance, isn't it?

Basically zero. I made the mistake when I was 18 to drive home when I had too much to drink, and it was the worst driving experience of my life. I did not get pulled over, but I was constantly paranoid about cars around me, and the fact that I didn't want a cop to see me driving. I may still drive if I had had one beer hours earlier, but it just isn't worth the risk of having any alcohol in my system.

Depends on who you ask.
If you ask the Calgary Police Dept., I believe something on the scale of one drink per hour is 'legal'. I'm sure there's a blood-alcohol limit that you cannot go over, but it's hardly 'zero tolerance'.

Depends.
If I'm driving my car I'll have 2 pints, or three bottles (same thing really) Which according to that calculator puts me well under, even if I drink them in an hour.
If I'm riding my bike (of the motor variety that is), I won't have more than 1 bottle, and usually not even that. Bikes and booze don't mix at all.

That thing is pretty funny. A 200 pound man drinking one mint julep in 5 hours is a possible impairment?

My answer would be about the same as KevanGuy's... one an hour, although I never drive to the bar ever. House parties, BBQs, etc. are the evenings you will see me take a cab home, or my wife and I duke it out over who's turn it is to drive. We usually do rock, paper, scissors to decide such things these days. When I lose, I make sure I don't go over the one an hour pace, and don't drink for two hours before getting behind the wheel. We are nearly always that last to leave, my wife never shuts up.
There were times when I was much, much younger, and dumber, however, that make me wonder how I and some of my friends ever made it home alive. Very dumb luck that I am by no means proud of.

I'm not sure that thing's working. According to it I can have 7 light beers in three hours and be under the limit. But then again, it must be American beer as it's an American site.

Has anyone here ever tried the breathylyzer-for-a-buck machines you see in some lounges? I remember trying one thinking there is no way I would consider driving in this condition, but my result was actually under 0.08. Now I am not saying hey I can drink a couple more for the road, and I know these things are probably not the most accurate, but has anyone else thought they were way out of whack one way or the other?

If you're driving you shouldn't drink anything, best policy
I don't know how many people I know that started with a 1 drink as their limit, then it went up to two drinks, then three drinks, and so on and so forth, so people just keep on increasing there limit over time.

quite honestly, the factors involved are so complex, including genetic, that it's a wash.
yes, the same BAC affects different people differently.
yes, many experienced drinkers aren't that bad at driving with a few too many in them.
that's why it's as low as it is, because the margin of error means lives lost.
that guy at the office christmas party that never ever drinks, but has 3, is WAY more dangerous than the guy that smokes back 8 pints a night and drives every time.
office party guy doesn't know how his reactions change, and is unaware of how unaware he is.
i think the largest 'danger factor' in drunk driving is experience.
personally, i think all impaired driving should be punished - including celphone use and eating, etc.

1 drink. 2 if I won't be leaving for at least an hour after I finish the drink and that is rare for me to do. It depends on what I'm drinking too. For some reason I can feel the effects of beer much quicker than I can feel the effects of the hard stuff, and since the guys at my office always drink beer, I'll have a beer and drink it really really slow. I have never gone over the limit of 2. The first time I drank 2 and drove I actually walked to the nearest store and hung out for an hour before I walked back to my car and drove home.

You can still be charged with driving under the influence even if you fall below .08. I have never seen those things in a bar, but it seems to me, that they would cause people to drink more.

I tried it at the Rose N' Crown years ago and I blew .365
I don't know about that, but I know I wouldn't trust that machine to tell me if I can drive or not. I haven't seen one in a long time. Do they still have those machines out there?
I never drink anything before driving.

I've had 20+ Molson Dry's in me and still drove. Kinda got ugly when I was doing over 150 miles an hour. Depth perception isn't so good with just one eye open.
But I did it, and no damage to the car.
Gotta love Gran Turismo!!! :P

Zero.
Wont ever do it again either, though i my past i was over many times and continued on.
Death of loved ones at the hands of impaired driving will really affect the way you look and think about such things.

Zero.
I drove too many times after drinking and I'm lucky that nothing ever happened.
Even if you are not "drunk", you can still blow over and seriously screw yourelf. It's just not worth it.
