Default Get Wireless on your Xbox for Less $$$$

Stop paying ridiculous amounts of money on that stupid Wifi adapter:

http://www.popsci.com/node/30580

After spending 2.5 hrs myself, I got it all set up with my old Linksys WRT54g Router, and it is awesome!

For anyone looking for the how-to parts of it (not as easy as the article makes it out to be) I found these sites to be super useful:

http://www.geeksaresexy.net/2007/10/...your-xbox-360/

http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php..._Mode_Wireless

AFAIK this is all 100% legit as it is freeware and just using your own hardware, but if mods have a problem with it, go ahead and delete it.

I have been reading and debating about doing this for a bit now. I have a spare laptop I could use to bridge it together.

Thanks for the post.

I did this a while back. works fine. I just purchased a cross-over cable from Memory Express for $6 (looks exactly like an ethernet cable, but it's not), used it to connect my xbox to my laptop, bridged the connection and voila! XBL without the ######ed Xbox wireless network adapter!

I went the "expensive" route and bought an Apple Wireless Extreme Base Station and the Wireless Express unit.

Base Station is located next to my modem and feeds directly into my PC. The express is connected into my XBOX but occasionally I'll plug a separate router into it to create a small network elsewhere in the house. Works great! Plus, I have the unit plugged into my sound system so I can play my iTunes library over the network on nice speakers.

I already had the Base Station so this only cost $100 -- bout the same as that lame MS wireless adapter. The Linksys solution is basically the same but cheaper and runs at 'G' speeds.

I recently found out about Apple's Remote software for iPod Touch and iPhone. This combined with the express/iTunes made me do a little happy dance. Awesome setup.

That is the setup I want eventually. Currently I play music off my MacBook through the XBox dashboard which works well, especially since my Harmony One can control the XBox.

Using the Remote app on your iPhone, is there a way to configure it so that changing the volume on the remote actually changes the volume of your receiver (instead of changing iTunes' volume)?

On the Remote software itself, it just seems to affect the iTunes volume. You'll still need to control the receiver volume in another way.

I wonder if the newer Harmony remotes can interface with Apple's stuff. Might be a smart home application somewhere out there that does what you want.

Yeah the Harmony can control Apple stuff (I'm pretty sure it could control minds if I wanted it to), I just have to go through the XBox to get the music through the receiver. Once I get the AirPort Express, I'll be able to control iTunes properly with the Harmony, the only downside being it needs line of sight, as opposed to the WiFi iPhone remote. Not a big deal.
