Default Router Connection to PS3: Improvements?

Now I'm not a tech whiz, but playing PS3 is fairly laggy for me with my router, I believe its a D-Link DIR-625. Now I hear that PS3 has had a lot of wireless connection issues compared to the 360.

So is there any way to improve the connection without moving the router? Thanks.

I know a lot of people who use their wireless without problem. I'm using it now and it seems to be working just fine (doesn't seem to be as stable as a hard connection, but it does the job). It may be your router ... i exchanged my dlink for a linksys and it has worked much better.

Do you know what your signal strength is? If you go under your network settings on the ps3 you should be able to look at your connection and see the % of signal it is receiving.

I'm having similar issues. Mine is SUPER slow to my PS3 and Wii. It is a fairly old router though.

It's usually 90-100 but i get lags still once in a while, and for example NHL 09, you can get screwed over big time. It's not even that far from my PS3 either.

Mine actually ALWAYS disconects when I try updates or anything like that.

Probably something to do with my router, but I'm not technologically savvy enough to fix it.

Interference is a big thing with wireless, less noticeable while surfing or streaming video (as you can pre-cache a lot of things) however, stuff like NHL 09 which is low bandwidth but very latency intensive time between packets of data becomes super important, and the correction algorithms in the wireless might not be up to snuff enough to find a clear signal/pattern and resend those missing packets.

Wireless B and G occupy the 2.4 Ghz spectrum, so some cordless phones will disrupt communications. Then there is orientation of the PS3 to the router, as 1 way might work better than another since the antenna isn't getting a strong enough signal.

Re-orienting the PS3 so that the logo is facing the wireless antenna might do the trick.

Otherwise, one of the users drilled a hole and ran cable. My PS3 is close to the router so I have a cable connection to it as well, so it's easier for me to just run ethernet copper.

If you have a 2nd router, this method would work for your ps3 as well:
