Default Remember that random roadside beating?

The guy that said that he pulled over to help someone out and then got his ass kicked? RCMP are saying that it was BS.

That actually makes me feel good. I'm glad that the incident never happened.

Just curious but in these sort of situations (where the cops had their doubts about his story from the start) would it be feasable for the cops to ask the individual to consent to a lie detector test purely as a time saving procedure?

I'd say no, but just stabbing in the dark.

1) they might be deluding themselves, so they'd "false pass"
2) they might be so wound up from the situation they'd "false fail"

Now the next roadside beating of this guy won't be so random.

This is a minor detail, but here's a pet peeve of mine:
Quote:
Sgt. Patrick Webb said police had their doubts from the beginning about the random attack.
"The more they checked, the more they determined it was all a fallacy, it was all a lie," said Webb.
That's not a fallacy. A fallacy is a formal error of reasoning--such as when people mistakenly generalize about climate change based on local weather patterns. Someone telling a lie is not a fallacy--it's a falsehood. Words mean things, people!

/grammar nazi rant

I read the article, but they don't say why they think he's lieing. I'd like to know more details. And why would you lie about something like that? I just don't get the reasoning behind it. To get in the paper maybe? And how did he really get beat on?

This question has been running through my head all morning. I wonder if it's cover up a more embarassing beating? Like maybe he got beat up buying drugs or something? Maybe he was hitting on the wrong girl and her boyfriend gave him a couple shots? Maybe he was hitting on the wrong guy?
I'll be interested to hear the reason.

Yep.... sounds like a problem involving hookers and blow.

... and he didn't want his friends and family to know the truth.

Don't blame 4X4. That mofo was driving in the left lane at slow speeds. It isn't 4X4's fault that this guy got what was coming to him.

It close enough to the same in a thesaurus, but the words have different meanings. I'm not sure how much I can expand on what IFF already said.

There's lots of words that are interchangeable with "lying" but not many for "without truth."

If the police had their suspicions about this case and never believed it in the first place how and why did it make the lead story in the local news? It caused such fear in the ederly community etc. and if the story was a "fallacy - sorry IFF" then why would they release this to the media or at least tip them off that this guy had a bogus story?
