Tuesday night the lady and I took in Kicking and Screaming, Will Ferrel's latest safe Comedy(like Elf) it was a pretty simple movie, nothing major to note but it had some good laughs. The kids were a treat, especially that funny little asian boy. A safe very predictable comedy, good date movie... 5/10

I had free movie passes from work yesterday so with nothing else to do we trotted down to a threatre and picked the Longest Yard, I wasn't too happy with that pick, I really didn't think I would like this movie. It had some downright stupid moments, and it was probably just a tad bit more origional then Kicking and Screaming (although, factually no) but it had some heart to it. I had the biggest laughs as the guy who smuggled in McDonalds food, and referenced it in anything he said .."You're a Mc#######"

I guess Adam Sandler has a clause that he has to put ex-wrestlers in his movies, because Kevin Nash, Bill Goldberg, and Steve Austin all had parts in this movie.. as well as Mixed Martial Aritist Bob Sapp. 6/10

Both are decent movies though, and if you're free on a cheap movie night they'd be worth a viewing. Kicking and Screaming is the much safer kid friendly movie, and Longest Yard had some naughty issues (N word) but no big deal. Both had their hilarious moments, but nothing spellbounding.

Has anyone seen the original with Burt Reynolds as the QB?

I really like the old movie. The opening scene is awesome. I've seen previews of the same scene in the new one, I don't think it's as good. I'll see the movie though.

I found the old version of Longest Yard at HMV, $9.99, and it was as good as I'd remembered. I always wonder why they do remakes of movies that had nothing wrong with them in the first place.

So they can make more money from a new audience that isn't familiar with the story or some of the older out-dated actors. If it worked in 1974, then maybe it can work in 2005...?
