Yes.

ADD: I believe the only time this does not apply is if the baby is of a diplomatic representative.

Or royalty. But for that they declare the room they give birth in as temporarily part of the country the royalty is from.

Princess Margriet of the Netherlands was born in Ottawa during WWII.

From Wikipedia (and I recall hearing this story when I visited Ottawa in the early 80s)

	Quote:

		|

The Princess was born in Ottawa, Ontario, as the family had been living in Canada since June 1940 after the occupation of the Netherlands by Nazi Germany. The maternity ward of Ottawa Civic Hospital in which Princess Margriet was born was temporarily declared to be extraterritorial by the Canadian government. Making the maternity ward outside of the Canadian domain caused it to be unaffiliated with any jurisdiction and technically international territory. This ensured that the Princess would derive her citizenship from her mother only, thus making her solely Dutch. It is a common misconception that the Canadian government declared the maternity ward to be Dutch territory, however, this would have been impossible for the Canadian government to do without the acquiescence of the ruling government of the Netherlands, which at the time would have been the occupying German forces.

Why would she be granted Canadian Citizenship?

Once you get on a US airline, you are considered to be on sovereign US soil, so I am wondering why she was given Canadian Citizenship.

From the article Jason Kenny says that because Canada has a claim to the airspace above Canada, it is considered as being in/on Canada.

Airspace outside of a plane > Airspace inside of a plane.

If, for some strange reason, Canada wanted to... We could surround any aircraft flying in our airspace and force it to land and do whatever we wanted to do inside of that plane. The whole "US airplane = US soil" thing is all well and good, in the US propaganda circus, but it means absolutely nothing to any nation that the plane is currently flying over.

At 6 pounds that doesn't seem like an early pregnancy. 7 months might be the protocol in Western countries but 3rd world countries like Uganda might have different views.

He might say that, but its not true, at least from the US perspective.

Here is a story.

I worked part time at the Edmonton airport when going to UofA (great place to work, except winter)

The Northwest plane came in from MSP, US customs official took someone into custody, and put him on the same plane going back. I asked the ramp manager at Northwest in Edmonton, she specifically said that for transborder traffic from Canada to US, until a passenger goes through Canada Customs, they are soveriegn US soil at the airport, even though they are in Canada.

Every time you go through US pre clearance at Canadian airports, you are on US soil within the airport, even through they are still in Canada.

That is incorrect and one of two things happened. Canadian officials were aware of this and approved it. Or the US officials did not inform Canadian officials.
