Isn't that where Oiler fans like to get stabby? I'm really hoping that the traveling is done by the end of March.

Yep, that's the place. But the forecast shows the Oilers not making it back to the dance for a loooooong time, at least as long as MacTavish and his one-liner stand-up comedy act is behind the bench. You're looked after.

what are you going to be doing in the downtown area?
I live and work downtown so I'd be glad to give you some info.

Jesus, I realize you guys hate Edmonton and all things on it, but you are trying to portray Edmonton like south central LA, and it just isn't that bad. I'm not going to be long winded here because it's a waste of time, but I hope the original poster doesn't think he needs to be packing heat in order to survive.

I've made the walk between downtown and Kingsway many times...it's really not that bad at all. I'd just suggest walking up 109 street. There is actually a hotel right above the city centre mall downtown (I think it's a delta?) as well...and a few decent restaurants around there.
There are also quite a few chain restaurants on 104th avenue, west of 109th street if you're not feeling adventurous. Those are pretty easy walking distance as well. There is also a small little sobeys downtown on jasper ave and I want to say about 105th street. there is also a bigger save-on foods at Jasper and 109th (seriously, do avoid this area on weekend nights...it's a big bar area and there is a large incident about once a month around here)
if you want to watch the game there is a boston pizza on jasper and about 107th. There's also a brewsters on about 104th ave and 113th street.
If you have any questions or I can help you out...feel free to PM me. Bring any monster truck hats, acid wash jeans and tapout shirts you may own to fit in with the locals.

Nah he doesn't need to pack heat, he just needs a stab-proof, fire-proof, STD-proof Batman suit!
I like staying at the Delta Centre Suite in the Eaton Centre, their weight room was OK, ask for an "inside view" room, always like looking from my window down on the mall.
I usually just went to the local BPs on 109 st I think it was, its right downtown on jasper ave to watch the games, or there's an Elephant and Castle pub in the Eaton Centre if you stay at the Delta. Edmonton is an alright city, the problem with it is all the Oiler fans.

Can you get those at the mall? And are you allowed to take it on the plane? I'd just pack heat but I'd probably have issues at the airport.

I think I still have Platinum status with Delta so that might be an option.

As I live in Downtown Edmonton at the moment, I may be of assistance
Stay:
- If you have the money (or the company), the most famous hotel is the Fairmont Macdonald (100th ST and Jasper Ave)
- Westin Hotel across the street is a decent hotel.
- Stay at the downtown mall. the Delta Central Suite Hotel is part of Eaton Centre. Along with the 3 hotels I mentioned, they are all in downtown central and offer many different amenities nearby
- Sutton Place hotel is at the other end of downtown, but is a cheaper option
Food:
- Downtown Jasper Ave has many different types of restaurants depending on your taste. Also, buses run up and down with regularity.
- Steak = Ric's Grill (104th and 102Ave) and Sawmill (more family type of place, but has some of the best steak and prime rib in the city. A bit farther at 104ave and 115st)
- Japanese = Japanese Village (100th and 100ave), Shogun (121st and Jasper)
- Earls (118th, Jasper), Joey's (114st, Jasper), Lazia (in Eaton Centre, fusion restaurant), BP's (106ST, Jasper)
Pubs = Pub 1905 (105th, Jasper), Sherlocks (100A Ave, 101St)
- There is a bunch of interesting places to eat including a Czech Bistro, French Restaurant, Shisha bar, Greek Place, and Sherlock's all in the little side Street (Rice Howard Way 101st and 100A ave)
- Fine Dining = Hardware Grill, Normands (116th Jasper)
- Sobey's (105th Jasper), Save on (109st Jasper), Safeway (116th, 104Ave)
honestly, there aren't too many places that shows Flames game.
Malls
- West Ed, pretty much has everything you need
- Kingsway and Southgate, both accessible by a number of buses are where regular Edmontonians shop
- Downtown Mall, has the necessities
That's what comes off the top of my head for sleep, eat, and shop. PM me if you need anything else on Edmonton

I won't be in town on the weekends so that won't be an issue.

I loved Brewsters when I was in Calgary but these days I don't drink so that might affect it's appeal to me.

Sadly I own none of those things. Does that mean I stand no chance at attracting some female company of the unpaid variety?

When exactly will you be in town? I'd reccommend the University where there are plenty of girls from out of town who may have spent their second semester student loans by than.

Uh....not really. For the most part Edmonton doesn't have a lot of character.
