It looks like all colors are displaying just in the wrong color area, and the picture is all "liquidy" . Thanks for all the help guys. I'll keep checking this thread in case there are more ideas otherwise i'll try to get someone to help me lug it back tomorrow.

I just wanted to have a quick read of the manual to see what it displays or a colour space. Doesn't sound like that is your problem. Futureshop might have a tech line or even panasonic.

Good luck with it. It would suck to have to pull out again...

Okay so i unplugged it for about 30 minutes, then plugged it back in and turned it on and picture back to normal.

Stayed that way for about 5 minutes again and then went back to the liquidy wrong color.

I've since unplugged it again, and moved anything electronic further away and switched out the power bar it was plugged into. Will try it again in another 30.

Any ideas? thanks.

I'ts a good idea to first turn a new TV off the vivid or dynamic mode and try a lower setting. Just for giggles try that but I think you may have to return it.

I don't know how true it is for the latest plasmas but I've heard they should be broke in for 100 hours watching full screen at low modes with no static scenes or bars such as on CNN.

Here's a thread about new plasmas. I'm not sure how relevant it is today.

but here's an updated post on burn-in and break in

Sounds like something is flakey, and being affected by heat, IMO. Definetly NOT normal though. Call your salesman tomorrow to ensure they have another new one in stock, and then get it exchanged. No need to waste any more of your life on an obviously defective TV.

It's probably a one in a million thing. Maybe you should go buy a lottery ticket?

Are you in Calgary? Futureshop website shows none in stock in the 6 locations.

Edmonton. I called the store this morning they said they had 5 more in stock.

After leaving it unplugged all night, it has been working without problem for just under two hours. Maybe it fixed itself? I read somewhere that new plasmas can be "off" and that you need to leave them unplugged for over 2 hours in order to drain the charges from something (i can't remember).

Any more ideas?

Replace the lemon. FS has a 14 day policy, over 14 days, then it gets crazy.

I'm going to return it on thursday. I'm worried about FS being sold out of this type of model. The guy at the store said they weren't getting any more in and they were selling really quick because of price and they won't put one on hold for me because its an exchange and not a purchase.

Also I can't get back to the store till thursday as thats the next day i'm off work earlier enough and my friend with the truck is free.

Yeah honestly, if you can replace it, do it.

Sure it might be fixed, it's a possibility, but it's always going to be in the back of your heard now.

It's going to be a hassle for you and that sucks because all you want to do is enjoy your TV, but you'll be better off in the end.

Make sure you don't let the idiots at futureshop try and push an extended warranty on you because of this.

Just curious why not? My Dad just bought a 50" plasma from FS and bought the 4 yr warranty for $150 extra. (Normally $300 but I've known a salesguy there for years so on top of getting the TV at a great price he gave 50% off the warranty).

The 4yr warranty on plasmas is an in-house full coverage warranty. So, would I rather pay $150 or even $300 up front to have a certified tech come to my house and fix my TV or pack the thing up and figure out how to get it to a repair shop and pay some unknown repair bill?

Sure, on some products the extended warranty is a pure rip off, but I'd rather gamble $150 up front and know I'm covered for the next 4 years.

I've posted this before, but the life span of electronic equipment is like a bathtub curve (used for calculating infant mortality).

At the very beginning of life, the chance something is going to go wrong is greater, but as the child/electronics product life goes on, the chance of something happening decreases. Then near the end of it's life cycle, the chance of something going wrong goes up again. So the whole curve profile looks like that of a bathtub.

So essentially, when you buy a TV, if something is going to go wrong with it, it's more than likely going to happen within the first month or so when you're still covered by the store return policy. Otherwise, it'll hang on your wall for years trouble free.

So to me, it makes little sense to get the extended warranty on the TV because the stores base coverage and a credit cards extended coverage are good enough.

Granted $150 for a 4 year extended warranty is dirt cheap and I can't blame you... but when salespeople start trying to push $500 plans on unsuspecting customers, it gets a little absurd to me.

Hey guys, so i'm taking the TV back tomorrow night.

Now I can exchange it for the same TV or pick out a new one with the money i get back. I've narrowed it down to either the same one or another. Which is better in your opinion.

Links:

Panasonic: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...0086251&catid=

LG: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...0100038&catid=

I bought the panasonic for $1000 though now its listed at 1099. Both seem to have great reviews. The LG seems to have better specs though, (ie brightness, contrast), and the LG is 1080P where as the panasonic isn't.

Should i stick with the panasonic or maybe go with the LG?

Absolutely get the one that is 1080p, but if it were me, I would buy a LCD over a plasma.

Why LCD? I know the pros and cons of each. Plasma better picture, brighter, and wider viewing angle, vs LCD uses less power, slightly worse picture.
