I don't think that's a fair statement. Just because there is a certain kind of crime wave doesn't mean that all cops should just abandon doing all their duties and focus on one thing.
I mean, what do you want? No more seatbelt tickets until all gangs are gone?

Seems a little bit defeatist to start avoiding things out of fear for your safety. Fear for your safety is natural... but the way I see it is, if something is going to happen it is going to happen, and there's nothing you can do to stop it - so why avoid living your life in the meantime. In the event of the worst - getting mowed down while eating a dumpling - it's not like your death would be dishonorable... the only dishonor would go to the gutless fecks who shot you.
It's the same thing as people and their Armageddon fears. Yeah - so the earth might blow up someday. But it hasn't yet, so relax! And if it does happen, will it make any difference that you wasted your final days wringing your hands about it? Not at all.
Que sera, sera.

Jeeze - I'm avoiding Honda dealerships. If I do go, I'll hang around the Ridgelines - just nowhere near the Civics.
Maybe I'll just avoid the NE as a whole, lots of colored there. Oh wait, Bolsa is in the south. Now what?

okay, just to offer the OP some frail support...my parents who are Asian have also sworn off certain Asian restaurants.
Because they are extremely paranoid old people who call me up everyday telling me about the terrible stuff on the news and telling me not to go to certain places and not to go out past 10:00 PM and have quadruplelocks on the doors and the windows welded shut. But still...

Asians: Late-night restaurants open till past 3AM, Vietnamese restaurants, Chinatown
HAs: Strip Clubs
Italian Mafia: Italian restaurants
Guess that leaves fast food, select restaurants and hockey games! Oh and the NE should probably be avoided too... but then again the NW tends to have a lot of Asians as well, so maybe avoid the entire north-end in general...

The grocery store I worked at while I was in school once had a robbery that involved gunfire. The same chain had another incident where an guy fired a shotgun at his estranged wife while she was working as a cashier. He missed and his body was found years later in the woods. But you don't have that grocery chain in Calgary so you're safe. For now.

T&T's actually pretty friggin' awesome... for those who don't shop there, on the weekends, they always have like 8 or so sample stations placed around the store where they cook up various things from soup, to dumplings, to noodles/rice... two laps at every station and you'll be good for lunch.

Hey, has anybody that's been to T&T (or any other asian grocery store) recently seen these?
It's precooked rice that's microwaved. Very handy. I had some when I was at my parent's in Cali. There was actually a whole aisle of different brands when I went to the Korean grocery store there. Also, peaches the size of a grown man's fist.

Sorta, but these are single serving and consist of asian rice, not that weird long grain rice that Uncle Ben's is.

I think my rice cooker has a reheat option on it. I'd take reheated rice originally cooked in a rice cooker then some precooked Uncle Ben's that's been sitting on a shelf for who knows how long at a substantial markup.
But I love my rice cooker. It's lovely since I am either horrible at or too demanding when making rice without it.

This thread has made me LOL quite a few times.
Yeah, it's crazy that this happens once in a while, but it's not going to stop me from grabbing a bowl of pho for lunch or hanging out at U & Me in Chinatown at 3 AM.

They taste just like they came out of a rice cooker. Kokuho makes them, so they're hardly Uncle Ben's fare.

And how much are they, $2 a serving?
Wouldn't work for me anyways since I don't have a microwave at my place.
