ioffer.com
hey,
have any of you fine people ever heard of the website ioffer.com?
it seems to me that its kinda like an ebay thing.
here's the story.
My wife and I were fans of the tv show NYPD Blue.
We were able to purchase seasons 1-4 at Best Buy but Sony wont be releasing seasons 5-12. I find this highly annoying.
Now, there is someone selling this show plus others on ioffer. I am pretty sure they are a bootleg but they seem to have sold quite a few.
here's the link
http://www.ioffer.com/i/73818686?store=1
what is the deal with purchasing something like this. are there legal ramifications to the purchaser?
is this a rip off?
can anyone provide some input?
thanks

Its illegal as hell for them to make money off of bootlegged videos of the show.
Punishable by 5 years in jail and/or a 250,000 fine.

I would imagine that it would be illegal (ish, in Canada) to purchase bootleg property. You may not have made the copy, but you purchased it. Not as punishable, but still, if you're sceptical, I'd stay away.

I don't know what it is, but always* use Paypal, and make sure the Paypal "funds" come from your credit card.
* and by "always" I mean whenever buying something online from what may be a less than reputable site.

You can't sell something you don't own, that website doesn't own the rights to that show.

well I am skeptical. I just wanted to see what the legality was of this and whether anyone else had ever dealt with the site.

I think it's a ripoff to buy something that's illegal anyway.. if you're going to do something illegal, you might as well just download it for yourself rather than pay someone to do it.
I'm sure the seller would be in trouble if someone told them about him, esp. since he's charging for the stuff.
I'd be more worried that it would be seized at the border and I'd be out my $$, or that he just wouldn't ship and I'd be out my $$.. I doubt a credit card company would reverse the charge to buy something illegal.

I can't believe somebody would seriously offer something like that for everyone to see. This ad is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

There used to be a guy who sold burned Xbox games in the Bargain Finder all the time.
If you're going to break the law, at least try to do it without publishing your real phone number.

Pick a category you are familiar with. For me, its handbags. I can tell by the pictures that all the bags are fake. I have a friend who paid $400 for a small Chanel handbag (as if!) and I tried to tell her there's no way to get it for that price. When it arrived, it looked like quilted plastic, it was sooooo cheesy. It was the kind of cheap purse you could get at a swap meet. Everyone on there, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Coach, etc. its all fake. They're not even good fakes. They use cheap hardware, inferior stitching and the liners are totally cheap looking. I'm not sure how they've managed to stay around. If they're selling DVD's, I'd be fairly confident they're pirated.

Agreed. I picked something I knew: Golf. Here's one listing that is clearly completely counterfeit:
http://www.ioffer.com/i/Taylormade-R...-Club-91403336
That entire sets retails for $3036 CAN at Golf Town. iOffer wants 430.99 CAN. Nice Try.
