No - sorry, I don't know anyone in Chestermere that does auto glass. I think the auto shop behind Safeway is a detail shop, so I don't think they do glass.

FWIW, I'd call tonight and leave a message on the machine. At least that way, if the garage does get broken into tonight, you've done what you can to inform the condo board. It'd be a pretty crappy double whammy if the condo board tried giving you grief for not informing them as soon as possible. Just sayin...

Dion. You lucky duck. My truck got broken into the summer before last and they gripped my expensive clubs. The punks even cleaned out the mini cooler with the left over beer from that day's game. AND they took canadian tire money. Sheesh. Get a job..!!

I was always told, don't put any thing that has you address in your car, registration, insurance etc.

Stealing a man's beer is criminal! That's a severe beating offence if caught.

I seem to remember now that they took my Crappy Tire money too.

If i have to take the LRT downtown i always take my garage door opener with me. I hear thieves browse the LRT lots looking for cars that have the openers in plain sight. Get your ID plus the opener and your home is cleaned out by the time you find out your vehicle was broken into.

My car hasn't been broken into, but since I am the only one who ever drives it, I should put that stuff in my wallet.

Maybe you should. That way, the only thing they get their hands on are:

cell phone charger
water bottle
gloves/touque
snow brush
power cord
manliness
awesomeness
driving skill
floor mats
empty cans of whoop-ass

Leaving your door opener is fine, as long as you don't have your address in there. I doubt thieves have the time to go through the city looking for your house waiting for a garage door to open.

It's not fine. They see the opener and chances are they break into your vehicle. They may not find your ID but you the owner have to deal with the hassle of getting that broken window fixed. Best plan is to leave nothing in the open that would give thieves any ideas.

Have you checked to make sure you still have your insurance and registration papers? My sister-in-law's car (and her entire block) was hit twice with robbers who took nothing but the papers, which most people dont even look for. She works in the Insurance industry so she knows the dangers of it.

People on here are correct about the garage door opener. This was not some bum thief, it was a pro.

The lugnuts were taken because they are better than rocks for breaking out car windows, and are easily hidden in pockets. People notice when someone is walking through a parkade with a big rock, not when they have lugnuts in their pocket. In your case, a rock was likely used because it was close to the car. By using a rock, he didnt have to use a nut that was in his pocket and fumble around after the break in to find it.

CD's and sat radio have low resale value on the street. This guy is going for a much bigger prize.

Have you ever seen the line ups at Costco? I would risk jail time to avoid that as well..

so anyone know a good glass shop in Chestermere or NE Calgary? it's a Mazda 3, and i figure from talking to others with similar cars that i'm looking at a $200-300 bill for the fix
Exactly the same thing happened to me in Seattle about a month ago. Some bum kicked in my window and stole an old, ratty sleeping bag. Left the radio, cds and some nice leather boots.

Anyway, if you bought the car new, call your dealership and they should set you up with someone good. Looking at around $250, probably.

Thanks.

My sis's car was "broken" into once, she left her doors unlocked because we lived in Crossfield.

About 6 months later the cops called and they had recovered everything.

All I can think of is that if they DID score something good out of your car, they will know where to go next time for a possible repeat, and that you are a person who is likely to keep valuables in your car. The simple fact that someone who broke into my car now knows where I live would also probably make me uneasy, even though its unjustified.

EDIT: FlamesKickAss's reason makes much more sense. They know that you are working 9-5 (or whatever), and where to go at that time for a (likely) vacant house.
