Default Laptop mouse problems

Hey guys, I'm having a problem with my mouse cursor on my laptop. What's happening is that basically the cursor gets stuck/jumps around. This happens with both the pad and when I hook up a usb mouse. Basically it's fine if it's just mousing over the desktop, but if I open anything at all such as a browser, or even just mouse over the taskbar it starts freezing/jumping. I've used enditall to close down everything but essential services one at a time to see if I could find what's causing it, but that didn't pinpoint it. any advice, or anything to check on? Thanks

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Thanks for the suggestion. it's running windows vista. I tried all the mice I had in all the different ports, and tried again just using the touchpad, seems to be getting worse. I might just shut down my computer for a bit, let it cool down, as since my desktop crapped out this thing is my main comp, and has been running steady for a couple weeks, and seems to be running quite hot. Don't know if that would affect it or not, but just another thing to try

OK so I was pretty much ready to format this thing and start over, since I really haven't put anything on it, being it's less than a month old. For some reason it popped into my head to just use a basic cursor instead of the 3D one they had put on, and it seems to have fixed the stuttering problem. What a ridiculous thing to cause those sort of problems.
