Ipod Question....
I did a search and couldnt find anything that helped me with my problem.
So i bought an ipod off my cousin a while back and he gave it to me with a bunch off music already on it. I want to add my music to the library on the ipod without losing everything already on it. How can i go about doing this?

You'll need to rip that ipod of the music already on it to your computer using a program. You'll have to search for those. Then reformat the ipod to your computer and finally put everything back on.
That ipod will currently only work with your friends computer.

I don't think you'll lose everything on your iPod just by plugging it in to another computer. On my iPod, I have thousands of songs that were originally added from my work computer, and I don't sync with that computer any more. I don't have those same songs on my home computer where I sync my iPod to.

If you're on a Mac, use Senuti. Not sure about good PC options though.

As I said in the confessional thread it annoys me, but in reality it's just a pet peeve.

I helped a friend with this situation once. Basically, you need to check off the options for manually updating the iPod. You'll manage all of the music/video/photos etc manually, so that way, it doesn't automatically sync to your libraries on your computer. Instead, it will remain everything on the iPod and you can drag and drop your own music files into the unit using iTunes. I hope that helps.

That won't work anymore.
It used to, but at some point with iTunes updates, they created a feature that only lets you link an iPod with 1 computer at a time. In order to link it with a new computer, you have to clear the HD and start over.

Really? Well, that's brutal. That's frustrating that you are "tied" to one machine. I appreciate the clarification.
If that's the case, I would try using an older version of iTunes:
http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.htm
And perhaps try what I suggested earlier in regards to the manual procedure.

You could use a program called Floola to drag and drop new music on to your iPod.

How recent was this, I have had my iPod plugged into more than one machine and uploaded music within the last month.

I've only noticed it within the last month or so. Actually, I'm not 100% sure if it's effecting all models of iPods. If anyone is still successfully using 2 computers with updated itunes, please share.
It has been an issue for me with my iphone, and a friend at work had the same issue with her new nano. Maybe some models still work??

Surprised that no one has mentioned this, but if you install winamp, then the ml_ipod plugin, you can just use winamp to manage your ipod. No issues with only being tied to one computer, you can move music on to or off of your (or anyone else's) ipod with impunity, and I prefer it to itunes' interface. Used it for about a year and a half, and I'm much happier with my ipod since I started. Only issue... it may not work with the iphone or the new touch, I know they were having issues with that a couple months ago, but I know they're working on it.

Linking for posterity:
Sharepod!!!

Whenever I have had to rescue my music library off my iPod, that utility has made life so much easier.
The biggest irritation I have with iTunes is it's inability to copy a play-list to a flash drive. As in, copy the files to another location. Unless I'm missing the option to do that.
Otherwise, I don't get why people hate iTunes so much around here. It's really not that bad. 7.0 was awful yes, but they fixed it fairly fast.
Then again, I've always hated the drag and drop model for mp3 management and prefer the ability to create playlists based on a single organized file tree.

It's been that way since the beginning as far as I know. Each iPod has a base computer to manage it's music library, but it can be plugged into another computer to charge. I think you can also play the music off the iPod, you just can't manage the music at all.
