I've seen them checking at peek time. On the NE line they stand at the doors to the station and check the tickets as people file past (I've seen this as Marlborough and Rundle)

Now if I didn't have a ticket and saw that, I'd just get on the train to the next stop and either wait, or get a ticket and come back. But who knows, perhaps seeing them do it is enough of a deterrent that they aren't overly concerned about the numbers caught. Or maybe it just helps when they market their compliance numbers..

since downtown is a fare free zone though, if i don't see any transit people at the station i get on at (barlow/mac bell) i know i won't get checked. the trains are too packed in the morning for them to ride and check tickets, and they can't check them where i get off in downtown since it's free anyways

i've started only worrying about validating my ticket for the ride home, since i work late and take the train at off-peak hours. even then i've never been asked to show my ticket

WElllll it is winter time right now. I am a great driver too.

I am willing to bet if I hopped on the train at McKnight and you left to drive at the same time I would be there and waiting at say Olympic Plaza while you were still trying to find a parking spot. Wanna race?

I guess I am saying if your job was to get somewhere that was close to the train, you can get there quicker on the train.

ALSO....IF I did live in Calgary I would have season tickets to the flames and would take the train every single time so I can drink my face off.

What is wrong with you people...it's all about priorities. Would you rather pay for a taxi or get the train. It's a cheap option IMO to get home safely.

Just my .02

Going down to the Dome I agree with you, the train usually tops a vehicle.

On the homeward trip, the platform to catch the downtown train is always packed, then waiting on a platform downtown to catch the NE can be a cold and miserable trip (especially if the game started at 8, and you get back downtown after the game when the NE train runs every 1/2 hour). Even then, once you get to the NE you probably need to drive home unless you live really close to the station, or want to wait for another connection on a bus on a a night-time schedule.

Driving home, once you get away from the dome there is very little traffic, and even then in your vehicle you are warm and can listen to the radio.

Oh, and while I enjoy a few beer at a game, I hate feeling like I need to go to the washroom half way through a period and I figure I spent enough for the ticket that I want to pay attention to the game. I can "drink my face off" afterwards if I so desire.

I have been to 3 games but haven't drank my face off yet, I was only joking. However, even having just 4 beers I wouldn't want to drive. Just seems so nice to have the option of the train in a city like this. You guys are all use to it but coming from a place where nothing like this exists and the only option is a cab, I like the transit and still think is is a cheap option to get around.

For sure. To go see a weekend game I'll take the train down every time and have a few before, during and after (although like I said, I hate needing to get up in the middle of a period so I usually pace myself based on that).

But there have been more than a few trips home on the train that I was wishing I had driven down instead. To get to the start of a game you usually catch a bit of late rush hour, so the train going down is fine. Going home, once you are a few blocks away from the dome, it is MUCH faster/warmer to drive.
