My Optometrist tried to tell me I can get eye cancer and all this other b.s.

Always a great idea to call what a doctor tells you B.S.

Which is alright, I like my glasses, but I still wish my contacts were as comfortable as I remember.

Try Dailies or 2 week disposable contacts..... were you in the original Acuvues before ?

Who is the biggest Flame first round flop?
A Deasley - Bryan Deasley was drafted to the Calgary Flames (1st pick 1987) but was quickly let go and never actually played a pro game.

The one I've been to was excellent and would not hesitate to recommend her to any of my friends if they were experiencing back pain. The only time she mentioned "big pharma" or anything of the like was when she recommended not to take robax platinum and such to treat the pain but instead use a proper diet, stretching, exercise and a bit of chiro to treat the underlying problem which IMO makes perfect sense.

I think the biggest problem is that the industry as a whole doesn't do a good job of either filtering out those ones or doing the meticulous record keeping that's so important to evidence based medicine. I'm sure different associations have different policies, but some of the material I've read about really make it look like the $$ is the most important part and they instruct their members on how to get people into long term permanent therapies, full body x-rays, etc etc. These were US ones so I'm not sure how the Canadian association is but that they don't distance themselves from the quacks is disappointing.
There have been deaths associated with neck manipulation, but getting real stats is hard because the practitioners don't seem to keep track of who gets what when. Which also makes it hard to determine what kinds of therapy actually do anything beyond placebo.

We see a few every year, young people with devastating strokes following chiro neck manipulation; But we only see the one's who are still alive to make it to the ER, I don't know how many die without making it. There's currently a multi-year study going on at our institution investigating this. Bottom line - Don't let a chiro touch your neck!!

wow this thread got derailed quite a bit from contacts to chiros. I've been to a chiro before and quite often actually. There are some very good ones out there you just have to know what you are looking for. The biggest problem is you dont really need advanced medical training or anything. It doesnt take much for any joe to slap up a chiro sign (this is what I remember maybe its better now). The one I went to for years had an actual medical degree, I cant recall for exactly what right now but she was a real doctor who became a chiro. She didnt try to scare me away from traditional western medicine or any crazy stuff but I did have back pain and the arch in my one foot had dropped so I was in alot of pain. I went to regular doctors and all they told me was to take advil for the pain. 2 or 3 sessions with the chiro tho and I was back to normal.
as for the neck cracking, I love it. I feel so loose and relaxed after a good crack or two in my neck and back. You just feel more natural and your muscles relax when your spine and other bones are in place.

there is also a huge lawsuit going on because of this as well. A friend of my parents went to a chiro and left with a stroke.

Just wanted to add that my optometrist actually matched the clearly contacts price last time I was in for an eye exam. I needed new lenses for my updated prescription, and so I requested he write it down. He asked right away where I was going to get them from, so I told him and he said he could match it so I ordered through him. Maybe your wife could try this if she likes her doctor and wants to support his business? otherwise, for service and speed, clearly contacts is definitely a winner!
