MLB Offseason Thread
Well the first big move of the offseason is about to go down. The A's have apparently landed Matt Holliday from the Rox. It looks like Street, Greg Smith and Carlos Gonzalez going the other way.

This is a huge trade for the A's. They really need some offensive help and there is lots of discussion that they maybe after Furcal as well. The big question will be...will the A's sign Holliday to a long term, big money deal?

Will the Yankees sign both Sabathia and Burnett?
Sounds like Sabathia would prefer a NL club on the West Coast.

Speculation that Sabathia will be offered 6 years at $150,000,000 from the Yankees.

Makes you wonder how much illegal negotiations happen in the NHL before the official kickoff to free agency. Within minutes there are announcements of signings in the NHL.

Yeah, all speculation (from NY) was that it would be somewhere around $150,000,000 for six years. Anything to draw C C away from the dream of pitching and hitting for the Dodgers or Giants.

Another thing might be that in MLB players are waiting to see if they have a chance at a big payday from the big spenders before they accept anything else.

Pedroia as the AL MVP is an interesting choice, but he was very productive for a 2nd basemen with his .869 OPS and played solid defence to go with it. He was clearly the best player in the AL at that position last year and was a real catalyst for the Red Sox. I think that either Pedroia or Joe Mauer are the two guys who stood out as being significantly better than any other player in the league at his respective position and hence gave his team the most value, on teams that were able to win. Rather than go with a guy like Josh Hamilton who had a big stats year they chose a guy who did seem to give his team an advantage that other teams didn't have.

How the hell do the Yankees spend this much money during a recession?
And, on another note, this is one of the reasons I'm starting to sour on the game of baseball. The top 3 free agents end up on the SAME TEAM?
