Get a photo-radar, speed trap or red light camera ticket? You might have PO'd a kid
Wow.

Tired of texting their sexcapades to their fathers, teenagers have turned to combining photoshop skills, speed cameras and cruelty in order to raise havoc and punish their enemies (and frenemies).
Students at Montgomery High School in southern Maryland have apparently been reprinting copies of the license plates of people they don't like, attaching them to their own cars and driving past traffic cameras at high rates of speed. The result is a $40 fine sent to the hated peer or teacher.

No idea how credible that site is, but it's kind of a unique way to get back at someone, or just partake in some general ######baggary.
Edit: Although, the more I think about it, the type of vehicle wouldn't match when they ran the plate back at the cop shop or wherever.

At least they're being creative about their revenge.
I'd rather they do this than bring a gun or knife against whomever.

Has anyone seen 4X4 lately? Did he move to Maryland and pretend to be in high school?
I'm pretty sure I'm doing this when the speed cameras at reds are installed.

He could audition as a kid....the oldest, angriest kid ever. Besides, he couldnt pull this off.
Lets be honest here, I'd be impressed if has a legal license plate.

One would hope so, but I wouldn't put it past them to issue a fine anyway.

Well the obvious flaw in the prank is, hope they don't get pulled over.

I hope people start doing this successfully here to the point that they get rid of all of the ridiculous unmanned traffic enforcement cameras.

I wonder if they run the plate before issuing the ticket. It would be pretty easy to tell that the plate doesn't match the make of the vehicle if they did.

I'd say the more obvious flaw is that the teacher gets a picture of his or her license plate on an '89 Tempo instead of an '01 Hyundai.
Edit* beaten by 11 minutes. Wow.

I'd just steal a plate from a car exactly like mine.

Then you'd be smarter than the average teenager. My apologies to any teenagers reading, but they aren't always the most forward thinking group of people.

I don't think the purpose is to evade red light running. The purpose is to get tickets sent to your enemies. Unless they have the same car as you, your method won't work.

Isn't this prank trying to give a ticket to someone they don't like?
As opposed to just avoiding a ticket.
Edit: beaten like a rented mule.

It's just jokes anyway, it's so illegal to steal a license plate, I would never do that just to avoid a ticket.
But yeah, I do find it hilarious that kids are doing this. Hilarious. And I can't believe that it's kinda working too.

I've never had one of these tickets, but can't you also see the driver of the car in these pictures? I guess you could wear a mask and borrow someone else's car so that way the teacher can't recognize you.

Most of them are borderline ######ed.

That happened to me.I was actually kinda lucky about it because I noticed almost immediately, so I called the cops before any tickets of anything started getting racked up.
It was more funny than anything else. I mean, who steals a license plate? The answer to that is the same person that stole a vehicle exactly like mine. All they needed was a 'legit' plate so they could drive to Red Deer.
I think it cost me $20 or something for a new one.

Damn I half admire that... pretty funny. I'm pretty sure it will just result in the ticketing process including a vehicle make and model check, they won't get rid of their cash cow machine becuase of a few pranks...
Also I think that unless your pulled over you'd get away with it... to date the owner of the vehicle is ticketed for multinova even if they claim not to be the driver. Courts have decided the driver cannot be determined from photo but owner of car is ultimately responsible for how its used if they lend it out... so them saying "Hey this is your make and model of car and that fuzzy out line in the drivers seat looks a little like you when I squint and of course we have the wrong license plate #." wont hold up.

Not in Canada. the pictures are from the rear of the vehicle. In europe, the photo is taken from the front of vehicle, and they take a picture of the driver to ensure that the owner is driving.
