Default Danny Williams

Did anyone else hear the interview this morning with Danny Williams on CBC radio. I am not a fan, not do I know much about Danny and his politics. The interveiw focused on Nfld taking back land and mineral rights from a US company.

The point is he was very funny:

"sticks and stone may hurt my bones but names will never hurt me"

talking about prior resource agreements:

"we got the shaft"

he also had a number of other good lines.

He strikes me as a very intelligent guy who is a really good Premier, fighting for his province at all times.

He'd make a heck of a PM.

He's a very good premier and a great interview.

He single-handedly killed Harper's campaign in NFLD.

My favorite is when he destroyed the then married Mills and McCartney on Larry King regarding the seal hunt.

I really like Danny Williams. I have a big problem with our current party leaders simply because they don't seem to draw any emotion from people besides anger or annoyance. I would love to see Canada get a leader with some charisma or fire in the belly.

Yeah, I think that Newfoundland, Quebec and Alberta all have fierce independent streaks that tend to make us pick the same sorts of personalities as leaders. Stelmach being an exception to that rule.

I saw that interview live, he made them look like fools. He even pointed out they werent even in the right province. LOL
I honestly believe that McCartney started looking at her differently after that. She got a confrontational when she started losing the argument with Williams. It was probably the best Larry King I've ever seen.

I like Williams, he speaks his mind, not like most politicians who tow the line.

Danny is just another ,although more outspoken, politician.

He picks a good fight nationally while still breaking promise's locally and running his province and party like a dictatorship.

If you don't follow danny's line, out you go.

He led the defeat of most of the federal conservatives in NL and still thinks that they can negotiate in good faith with Ottawa.

Hopefully the good people of my home province will find a way to reign him in a bit.

The overwhelming majority and election success has gone to his head a bit me thinks.....

I think he's more of a Hugo Chavez type in the making. His only card to play is waving the flag. Fact is ripping up agreements, and expropriation will absolutely cripple the province in another decade. Capital is liquid and will always go where the highest profit can be made with the least amount of risk. Signalling to companies that if the Province feels there's political capital to be earned by market intervention and not honoring their own laws and regulations, tells them to park their money somewhere else.

Another thing that drives me nuts is when under criticism about his business policies, his supporters use his previous experience as a successful Newfoundland businessman to counter-act. Being a sucessful businessman in a climate of heavy government regulation, high taxes, and high government spending from all three levels of government requires more palm-greasing, and charisma skills than business sense and intellect to be sucessful. The job of premier was right up his alley because he's made a career out of glad-handling those who control the levers of legislative power. His business sense is more in line with Oskar Schindler than Bill Gates.
