The best video game memory I had was when I was 7, and I was playing NHL 92 on sega
Anyway, my brother who was 12 at the time wanted to play against me in a playoff showdown. He chose the Los Angeles Kings, because they were good. I got the new expansion San Jose Sharks to play with. Suffice it to say, my players in the game were all slow crappy guys who couldn't shoot the puck worth a damn and the Kings were the best in the west, fast guys with gretzky et all.
7 game series. 10 minute periods. Final result of series. San Jose 4 Los Angeles 0. Next round... He got the Chicago Blackhawks with Roenick and Belfour as their stars. Final result San Jose 4 Chicago 0. By this time he's getting really really pissed at me. All good. Conference finals, the team he gets is the Calgary Flames. The only time he got a goal was from Theo Fleury. San Jose 4 Calgary 0.
Now he's red as hell and wants to beat me up. The final team he got was the Pittsburgh Penguins. Lemieux, Jagr, Stevens, Francis, Mullen. FFKKKKKKKKK. He was all cocky saying that he'd mop the floor for sure. Indeed, there was a floor that was mopped. Not mine. Final result San Jose 4 Pittsburgh 0.
In total I scored 34 goals in the 16 games (I told you they sucked), but I only gave up 7 in the entire 16 games, with two of those games being 3-2 games in OT. I played the trap to perfection, would not do risky plays and totally kicked his ass. It was glory.

During the late 80s, early 90s, I think I spend more time playing Pirates! than sleeping. I always wanted to take over the entire Spanish Main for the Dutch. Never managed to accomplish this task no matter how hard I tried.
Guantlet was definitely fun. Now, umpteen dozen years later, whenever I'm at my brothers place and I'm playing something on his system and running low on health in any game, like GTA or Twisted Metal, my brother tells me "Valkarie is about to die."
Favorite Atari games were Tron's Deadly Discs and Bezerker. Oh, and River Raid.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.
My friend and I started a fantasy league using Wayne Gretzky Hockey 2 to sim the games, and Hockey League Manager to run the league. You could import the rosters to WG2 from HLM and the scores from HLM to WG2.
It got to be tedious to have both of us sim the games as one person would always be waiting on the other so he eventually took over. But I used the quick sim many times on HLM and won many Stanley Cups with many different teams. We came up with a forumula to rate the players based on stats and every tuesday I would grab the newspaper with the complete stats and update each player on each team.
Me and another buddy would get together and have lots of fun playing WG2. It was the worst graphics you can imagine, you saw the ice from over head view and the players were near stickmen like. However we had fun with it anyway because it was the most realistic hockey action you could find. One time I remember using the Flames and I grabbed the puck, the player I was controlling was Berube. I managed to deke out the entire Chicago BlackHawks team and score with Berube. Other times we would focus on taking out each others top players with bone crushing hits. Hard to do but you could knock a player on his butt a couple of times per game.

that game used to piss me off so much. I never got that last gold bar. I got to the last screen hundreds of times, but always ran out of time somewhere on the screen. Closest I got was one time having my foot right over top of it, about to come down on the bar, and time runs out.
I still want to torch Activision HQ over that game.
But as far as the activision games for the Atari, Starmaster was way ahead of it's time, don't know how many thousands of hours I spent on that game and Dragster.
Anybody remember this game? Sadly I owned this
Yes it's the band Jouney's crappy video game

Is that screenshot for the Atari 2600 version or the arcade version? I don't remember the 2600 having graphics good enough to show faces.
that was from the arcade version. The 2600 was pretty much just little stickmen IIRC. Also I don't remember there being anything on the 2600 like caves and stuff, just remember the screen being black with barricades and groupies that you had to dodge. I didn't play it much, as it seemed to be just the same thing over and over.

I remember one of the best gaming moments was the first time I played the first mission in the first Wing Commander.
The first time I managed to evade a missile by kicking in the afterburners and going vertical, then killing my drives, flipping my ship over and getting on the tail of the evil looking flying wing Dralthi. Turning on my drives, and blasting him to pieces with my twin lasers and a heat seeking missile. It was the ultimate dog fighting moment from a very cool game.
