Continuing with my theme of trying to squeeze (foreshadowing?) something from the 80's into every category...I pick in the folk/world/whatever category:
Tanita Tikaram's album Ancient Heart
Released in 1988 when she was but 19. Recieved quite a bit of airplay and it came to my attention when I heard "Twist In My Sobriety". Really liked the record then and still like it today.
I will post this now and then add some youtube, if I find any.
She is known for her husky voice and poetic lyrics. I also find some of her songs hauntingly beautiful. "Valentine Heart" particularly stands out for me in that area.
Found many...

In the Rap / Hip Hop / R&B / Funk category, Outkast - "Speakerboxx/The Love Below"
More stuff to follow, as long as I'm not arrested for throwing a shoe at Betman.

Not a likely recipe for a hit: a rock song with a bizarre 11/4 time signature by half of a hip-hop duo. Dre played almost all the instruments on this irresistible party jam: He told ROLLING STONE that its guitar chords, the first he ever learned, were inspired by "the Ramones, the Buzzcocks, the Smiths." Fun fact: The "ladies" who cheer halfway in are one woman: engineer Rabeka Tuinei.
I dig outkast a little bit. Like them about as much as I can allow myself to like hip hop.
Dre is a decent actor as well. I think he'll continute to get parts and they will be bigger and better as time goes on. Talented and extremely smart guy.

Was thinking today, I hope this draft is still holding everyone's interest. It seems to be moving along as pain free as any of them have, and that's a good sign. There isn't as much commenting and discussion as I would like to see, but maybe that's just the time of year.
In any case, the reason I bring this up is that I've got a couple of ideas for a massive song draft that I would like to try and get going when this is wrapped up. I hope there is enough interest!

I just don't comment because most of my tastes are pretty mainstream and I just plain don't know a lot of the bands that have been picked. And knowing how my tastes seem to go, some things I like on first listen get tired pretty quickly, and other things I need to hear a few times before I really warm up to them; so I don't like to rush to judgment. I have listened to many of the videos, and there are a bunch of them I am going to need to find.

A song draft would be sweet. I haven't really commented because I know or know of most of the albums that have been picked.
His wildcard column is empty, or he may be able to move one album to another open category.
Actually if I have a choice in the matter, I would rather not waste my wildcard or blues pick on the missed pick (Susan Tedeschi) . I've been knocking off the least interesting category's for me first and saving the fun ones for last.
I should have seen it myself, but I'm just as guilty of relying on the board when selecting my next pick, I just do it as a spir of the moment thing a pick ahead of me.
If I can I would rather just switch it with a pick for one of my remaining 3 Year Categories.

Solid choice Hanna, and I hear you. Not Tori's finest by a longshot, but it's still a damn good record and one that I find myself liking more and more as time goes on.
I'm not afraid to admit that the woman drives me bonkers too. It really is part of her music, not her business plan. She's incredibly sexy.
yeah but all those split personalities these last few albums is starting to scare the hell out of me.

Fine with me. Just let me know which pick you want to keep, and what your replacement pick is, and we should be good to go. Thanks, HS

Are we going to do anything special over the Christmas holidays, because a bunch of us are probably not going to be around (myself included). Should I send in a list of picks maybe?
Released in 2007, this is Australian born Missy Higgins' second studio album. It was quite successful in Australia and is only starting to get more attention in North America.
I first heard of Missy Higgins, fairly recently, through a friend currently living in Australia, and I am hooked. She's quicklky becoming one of my favourites. She's got a great voice, very emotional singing, and strong writing. She's kind of a cross between KT Tunstal and Sarah MacLachlin, in that same vein.

My second biggest favourite of hers, Forgive Me (performed live):
Probably my favourite of hers and her most successful single in NA, Where I stood:
Further blurring the boundaries between electronic music and rock, Ratatat's self-titled debut album mixes Evan Mast's fractured but propulsive beats and woozy analog synths with Mike Stroud's loud, yet somehow subtle, guitars. Come to think of it, "loud yet subtle" neatly sums up the instrumental duo's approach — while their sound can pack a formidable punch, it's also atmospheric. Often, the duo is both aggressive and atmospheric within one song, as on the album's opening track, "Seventeen Years": It begins as a dancefloor stormer, with in-the-red guitars and keyboards and a beat that sounds like it's gasping for air, until an analog synth-driven breakdown turns it into something more moody and bedroom-bound. More laid-back than dance-punk but livelier than post-rock, Ratatat's shuffling rhythms and pensive keyboards clearly owe a debt to Mast's work as E*vax, but other influences pop up too. Comparisons have been made to Daft Punk, and for the most part, they're justified; with its busy guitars, much of Ratatat plays like an indie spin on "Aerodynamic" from Daft Punk's Discovery, albeit with a slightly less arch feel. The bittersweet naïveté that floats through the album also recalls a more roughed-up version of Plone's nursery rhyme electronica, particularly on "Cherry," the sleepy epic that closes Ratatat and pays tribute to the band's former name. A slight hip-hop vibe also pops up from time to time, most clearly on "Crips"' insistent bass and rattling beat, but also in the spoken word interludes that dot the album.
This might be one of the most original bands I've heard in years. They're a big, messy, awesome fusion of rock, pop, electronica, and hip-hop. Oh yeah, and those are guitars you're hearing for the most part.
