Earlier this year when I had my tonsils out it hurt like hell to sleep on my side. (It put pressure on my neck.) I ended up lying on my back and putting a pillow under each arm.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I can't ever get comfortable sleeping on my stomach. Its actually most comfortable for me to sleep on my back.

Try putting a small pillow at the small of your back at first, I find that relaxes my back a little and then remove the pillow and raise your knees (stretch those same muscles), and then hopefully it'll feel a little more natural.
