Should have stayed in today. it was extremely easy to induce skids in my vehicle on deerfoot. Although I was still going faster than most. Also what was really fun was the trip up the bridge on southbound blackfoot trail. From halfway to the crest of the bridge that goes over the railyard, there was a strip of polished ice there.
I also passed 5 vehicles in various states of being stuck in a ditch as they were probably going too fast. Today would have been a good day for snow tires, or anything that would deal with black ice conditions.
(Note: I do not have real winter tires, as the nokian WR's have been sufficient these past couple winters as well as 4 seconds worth of space)

I am afraid to go out today for fear I might spontaneously combust from rage.

I hate people on the 14th St. SW hill that come up within inches of your bumper when they are on a pure sheet of ice! COmmon people, leave a foot or two so if you get rear ended (which is a real possibility on that hill) you don't hit the car infront of you (which makes it your fault in the eye of the law in regards to the car you pushed into). What really infuriates me as when I see someone is too close, i'll pull up a bit more and then the morons drive up even closer to you. Obviously they have no clue how to drive in the winter, like the majority of Calgarians,

I know the roads are slick BUT do people really need to drive 10km/hr when they're the only ones on the road? I'm not referring to this morning but I had some shopping to do last night and i couldn't believe how slow the traffic was moving. Yes I know the roads are slick, yes I know you're going down a hill but please don't hit your brakes when it's a straight hill with no reason to have to stop at the bottom. It only makes things more dangerous...

Had an appointment with a specialist this morn. Got on the highway and turned around due to the ice and blowing snow.

I find that having satellite radio makes a slow commute far less stressful.

I had to pick up my mom and take her to a 10 am meeting downtown with her lawyer. I left at 7:30 and got her there by 10:30. I live in Bridlewood btw.

When the population gets where we need to cull the herd these idiots would make number one on my list. If they had a brain they would realize you don't follow too close in this weather. Personally I just go that extra mile to piss them off. I slow down so slowly that they are freaking out but I just up that with pulling out even slower. Then when they skid into the other lane I speed up and they have to wait to get back into my lane if they are turning. Very funny. I wait to the last possible moment when going through lights and then they are left stewing waiting for it to change.
I bet it just makes their day and I could care less!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly, they help when you get stuck in the snowbank after sliding on the ice.

I have been in Calgary all 3 days this week. By far, yesterday was the worst. Today, no problems or traffic jams at all where I was driving, traffic moved along very well.

I think if winter tires were mandatory, it would increase road efficiency in conditions like this. It just really sucks to be stuck behind people who take an entire green light to get through an icy intersection. Being blocked by cars that can't get up mild inclines also sucks. This has been the biggest reason for the delays on my drive and not necessarily traffic accidents. Yes, you can get around safely with all-seasons, but the price is paid in traffic inefficiencies. I wonder if there are studies on this.

Actually, it's kinda funny. I'm pretty anal about my vehicles. I do tend to go faster than most people on snowy side streets because I've got it in 4x4. But as soon as I'm on Crowchild or any road that the snow is cleared off of, I'm a granny. I don't understand how some of the ######s that whip by me feel safe when the road LOOKS so slippery. At least when you're driving on mushy snow you have a good feel for what your stopping distances are going to be. Plus, you can't really even get up to a lethal speed.
I mean, I'm cruising along going 40 or 50 on roads where everyone else seems to be going 20. Then I get onto a bigger road and I'm still going 50, kinda on par with everyone else, but then there's the inevitable yahoo that whips by at 80.
I secretly want them to crash.
And yeah, I know there's someone out there in CP land that wants to tell me that 4x4 doesn't mean you can go faster on snowy side streets. But they're wrong. I can take off faster, I have much better control in snow, and with my 6 speed, I can indeed slow down faster. All because of the snow. 4x4 doesn't mean sh1t on ice.
