Default Best Video Game Ever
The best games ever are (some games were the best based on when they were on the market):

Goldeneye (N64): Multiplayer in the living room!!! Is a classic!

NHL 96 (Genesis): Fill in any year in the 90's. If you lived in a dorm, you know this game!

TecmoBowl (NES): See NHL 96!

Half Life (PC): Man, this game messed me up for a long time, revolutionary.

Soul Caliber (Dreamcast): We put countless hours into this game, I used to have ten or so people in my condo playing this game, three or four nights a week, for more than a year. The game is still not surpassed.

Call of Duty 4 (360): This version on Xbox Live is incredible, I played for over a year straight.

I am sure we can come up with more!

Goldeneye for N64 is a good choice.

Also on the N64, The Legend of Zelda : The Ocarnia of Time is excellent.

Back to the NES, two contenders come to mind. Zelda, and Super Mario Bros. 3.

Not bad, I have some similar ones. Well if I go by how many hours of my life taken by a video game, I would say...

Mario Bros - NES
Mario Kart - SNES
Sonic - Genesis
Goldeneye - N64
Destruction Derby - PSX
Counterstrike - PC
Xbox 360 - COD 4

For me besides the obvious ones like Super Mario, Goldeneye etc I would say Resident Evil. The first time I ever played that game all the way through for playstation was one of the most fascinating, engrossing, scary 40 or so hours of my life.

I'm partial to Mario 64.

Mario Kart SNES

Punch-Out!!! is also a fav

And NHL 94 is the definitive EA NHL game.

Goldeneye was pretty damn good, I think I would agree with this one as well. I did like SUper COntra though...

The fist two Mortal Kombats were awesome. Kinda lost interest after that.

StarCraft: Brood War 1.07 patch before they made Terran own everyone it was a great game.

Mario Kart SNES. Godly game.

Super Bomberman was also great.

I forgot on my list:

Resident Evil 1 (a classic in it's time) and Resident Evil 4, likely an all time great. I prefered it on the gamecube, I am not a fan of aiming Wii style. My arms are just too heavy or something.

NES - SMB 3
Master System - Wonder Boy 1, 2, 3, California Games
SNES - A Link to the Past, Sim City, Donkey Kong 1, 2, Mario Kart, Street Fighter 2 Turbo
Genesis - Sonic, Nhl 94
N64 - Mario, Goldeneye, Zelda OoT, Harvest Moon
PS1 - NHL 98, FFVII
PS2 - FFX
GameCube - Twilight Princess, Wind Waker
XBOX - KOTOR 1, KOTOR 2, Fable, Halo
Xbox 360 - GTA 4, Orange Box, can't think of others, but i know there are some more here

* Can't remember what console, but the Mario RPG, Legend of the Seven Stars, that was a good one too
