This just shows why the Wii is so great.

No, it shows that the Wii is selling more. It shows nothing about WHY it's so great.

The Wii is like Nickelback. It sucks, but a lot of people buy it.

It still blows me away that there's still such high demand for the Wii even after they've sold so many.

And so begins the obligatory thread about music (and video) games being a personal preference.

I was just joking. I don't care about Wii vs other consoles.

hmmm ... nope. That just shows a lot of people buy it. A lot of people voted for Hitler too.

The Wii is cool, just not my cup of tea. Hopefully the new peripheral coming out in the new year that upgrades it's waggle will help make the games we all thought the wii would be capable of making.

I am a long time video game player (I have basically every console almost ever). The Wii is basically pretty bad. I have played mine a little bit, but honestly, there just are not that many games for it. And those games that do exist? They kinda suck. That is the truth. My wife bought me it, but I have been tempted to dump it. There is no good hockey, shooters or great RPGs. In fact, there just isn't a game worth getting the system for. I doubt I have played more than three hours on any game for the system. The 360's Call of Duty 4, I logged well over 100 hours on the on line component. And recently I have logged in about 30 hours in the PS3's Fallout 3.
Aiming those Wii controllers as well is really annoying and hurts my wrists. I prefer to be really lazy when I play a video game. And before anyone starts, I have a pretty serious job, work out at least once a day and am very married. My wife just goes to bed really early (she likes sleeping A LOT), so I prefer a game to TV.

the fact that it is still selling out here in Calgary is insane...Nintendo should've just called it the Nintendo MMM (Money Making Machine)

Never bought Zelda or Mario? The 3rd party games are terrible but every in-house game for Nintendo has been aces.

Also PS3s Fallout was bugged to and is terrible in comparison to the XBox and PC versions. So there goes your credibility if you bought the PS3 version while having access to an XBox.

If you don't like the Wii you've probably never had friends over to use it with you. It's a great party gaming system but a mediocre single player system.

Mario Kart, Big Brain Academy, Smash Bros, Tiger Woods and Guitar Hero are a lot of fun to play when you have your buddies over.

Wow ... really? Hitler? ... you're comparing the popularity of the Wii to people voting for Hitler?

As a Wii owner who also happens to really enjoy it, I have to agree that the numbers don't nessesaril;y reflect how "awesome" the system is; but more accurately reflects the marketing in place.

First off, the reason I own a Wii is due to the stock shortage. Last boxing week I grabbed one when I saw it because it was rare, and I had friends who were looking for one. Once I found that they all had them, I had the choice of selling it here on CP, or keeping it for myself. I kept it.

Secondly, this is the first game console I have ever owned. Sure I played video games as a kid on my Commodore 64, then on various PCs. But that's just the thing- Nintendo found a previously untapped market and designed a gaming system with those people in mind. So now you have older people who may not have been into the console games buying Wiis. Heck, my retired parents are now looking at buying a Wii. I've also seen them being used in nursing homes, and we even have one at work in our big conference room that gets played at lunch time.

So to break it into stereotypes, you have 2 game systems for the 12-30 year old crowd. Then there is one for the 30-80 year old crowd. What that gives you is an "Ed Stelmach" type of win, where the one that should be 3rd place comes in and wins because what should be the top 2 are going after each other, and the 3rd place guy finds a different path.
