Last winter in Ottawa I wasn't a pusher or a tosser but rather a heaver. When you've got snow banks 8 feet high, heaving it is about all you can do.

I'm sorry, I've wanted to make a "pusher or a tosser" joke for the whole time this thread existed. I laughed when I first read it, I figured someone would go there before I got the chance. And now the obligatory: Where's fotze?

I'm a tosser ... I toss my slack-butt teenage kids out into the bitter cold, make them shovel the stuff and lecture them about how it builds character. I love the "it builds character" speech. Ya, ya, so I sound like an old fart. I'd rather be the old fart giving the "it builds character" speech than the poor kid out there freezing his/her butt off in this weather though.

I can only wish.

But I have to admit that dry heaving is a lot easier then heaving the beige wet stuff.

I am like Steely, that I will push it all to the side, then toss it onto the lawn. Whatever gets the job done though, really.

I agree! I shoveled my drive way 3 times Friday after work and again twice on Saturday. I love being outside (with the benefit of being within 100' of my door) when it's snowing.

I push and toss as well!

And I made the original comment, but I think you're misunderstanding me. I don't think is a storm whatsoever, just a lot of snow for this city. I'm a Calgarian at the end of the day, and also laugh when people here think this is a storm.
 |
I'm origionally from the Maritimes, so I find it really funny when even people in Calgary complain about 15 cm of the "fluffy" white stuff.

You should see it when you get 35-50 cm in 24 hrs of heavy wet snow.

I used to be a total tosser growin up, but last year we bought one of those big, long-handled, two-handed shovels last year(on a side note, by far the best snow shovel I've ever had. Literally takes half as long to do the drive-way/walks). That thing's so heavy, it just screams push. So I've morphed to a pusher.

I have a very wide snow shovel that I use when the snow is light and fluffy and not overly deep.
When we had the drifting snow the other day, I had to use my ergonomically designed shovel to throw the snow into a huge pile.

Even with the ergo handle, I had back spasms later that afternoon.
