It's also ironic that you would think its so far fetched, given the "views of the US around the world". The very country that invaded Iraq under the guise of WMD's - ie shoot first and figure it out after - also happens to employ the SS. Spin it anyway you want, but those apples dont fall too far from the tree.

They knew there were no grenades in the room. Do you think Bush just walked into that room and those people weren't put through search after search? Please.
I didn't say it was far fetched given the views of the US around the world, I said your statement was more inappropriate given the views of the US around the world. Read it again.

It's funny to see how many secret service people rushed in to protect Bush at the podium there.

This is clearly a case of not enough shoes.

I'm not a fan of Bush, but man, I'll certainly miss the hilarity that just seems to ensue when he's around...

I love how the dude next to Bush attempts to catch the second shoe... haha.
It just seems like nobody deemed the threat to be that great... Bush with the smile, the other guy playing DB, no secret service...

^^ I was just going to mention how stone-cold the guy was that was standing up there with dubya. he barely blinks!
I wonder if Bush wonders what his Secret Service thinks of him if they aren't willing to take a shoe for him.

Bush's smile looked more like the idiotic-nervous variety. I doubt if it was a conscious reaction.

This will seem weird but Bush seems to be a really nice guy and his interviews about anything other than politics are quite funny.
For example interviews about his family, his daughter getting married, sports, baseball etc.. he's very comfortable.
His interview with Costas at the Beijing Olympics was excellent because he was so laidback. ( transcript)
When it comes to politics and his policies, he just sounds like a dope.

The guy should have had a 3rd shoe on him, that would have definitely got their attention.

The best was the quote about seeing the guys sole..
"I don't know what the guy said, but I saw his sole," the president joked.

Shoe Throwing
Well i have to say i enjoyed that! Bush showed quick reaction, that was right on target. Well Bush has been one of the worst presidents in history, however i don't really think the shoe throwing by a reporter is a very effective method of protest.
Was he a professional reporter who is payed to work? if so, i'm not impressed. I'd certainly let the guy go as it'll just be another grievance they can use against the west. About as effective as the protestor that Cretien punched.
The sooner the US and their partners get out of Iraq the better. They'll have to pick new enemies to hate.

The U.S. military said in a statement Monday that a 25-year-old male detainee died of an apparent heart attack while in custody Sunday at a U.S. detention facility at Camp Cropper near the Baghdad airport.
