Won a cruise.... or did I?
So, I've got this guy on the phone, after I called regarding this "free 2 day cruise" through Ramada Majesty Cruise Line Vacations. Smells like a scam... anyone have info? I basically got a voucher in the mail, it's not a cold call...

Yes it's a scam. I get those phone calls about 3 or 4 times a month, even now after signing up for the "do not call" list.

I called them because they sent me something in the mail. Saying something about how the trip is free because of word of mouth advertising.. I enter "win a free cruise" on other cruise I've been on, which is the only reason I called.

2 day cruise? Where in the hell do you go in 2 days? Vancouver Island and back? Or maybe it is a "cruise" around Sylvan lake in one of those drinking boats...nice place this time of year.

"Fine, I'll give your free cruise to someone else"
Nothing else to see here, carry on.

Man that word of mouth advertising line is old. I used it when I used to do time share telemarketing. That was when people actually sometimes didn't automatically know it was a huge sales pitch so it was pretty profitable since you got paid only on the tail end (if people showed up to your sales presentation).

Yeah these pricks called me, gave me the hard sell, and then told me the amount of room left on my Credit Card, after I told them I couldn't afford it!
them: "You have $2300 left on your TD Visa, alg.You only need $500. I can put it through right now."
Me: "ffffff off" ...<click>.
They still kept calling for a while, the persistent buggers.

Did you give them your credit card numbers? If not, they have no right to even be looking at your credit or credit card info without your permission. I would have demanded to talk to his supervisor, gotten their official business name and called my bank to ask why they're fucsing around with my credit card.

did you really gave 2300 left??? I used this tactic sometimes when i was telemarketing..... I would just make up an arbitrary number.... believe it or not it worked more time than not ... of course it did help that i was only selling 99 dollar packages to branson and it was 4 days /3 nights a exciting tour of our beautiful resort.... .

I wouldn't trust anything that asks for your VISA, however these things are true. I won a free weekend night or two weekday nights at a resort in Collingwood. The catch was you have to go to their hard sell time share presentation in order for it to be free. If you skip out, you pay for the room. You just have to be strong enough to say no after the presentation.
Some places are real a-holes though and will treat you like crap afterwards. The place I went did not. I recently won a free 3 day cruise from Florida into the Carribean, but you had to get there and also attend one of these things. I won it when I went to the Flames-Ble Jackets game in Novemeber. I passed on that one.

You wouldn't have liked a two-day cruise anyway. I've been on several cruises and seven days is way too short. You'd get off the ship after two days very disappointed that it's ended.
I just hang up on these goofs. My polite wife gives them her ear for a couple of minutes before politely telling them of her non-interest. Me: Oh, a telemarketer. Click.

I had this idiot from Rogers call a couple days ago. My wife answers. After about 30 secs she says talk to my husband, he takes care of the phones. I get on the phone and the guy says "Hello sir, today I am going to give you a free phone". I said why do I need another phone I have two already. "Well sir, I am sure you have a friend or family member who you can give it to". I said look buddy, there is no way in hell I need another phone let alone give it to some friend who is going to rack up the bill that I am stuck for. Don't ever call me again, if I need something I will call you.
The absolute pushyness of these people is sick.

I've received precisely zero solicitor calls since this kicked in. Now the pricks just call my cell phone.

This happened a couple of years ago, so the exact details are a little fuzzy, but no, I didn't give them my CC #'s. I didn't check my balance, but it must have been in the ball-park, as I don't recall thinking 'BS', when they said that.
I was pissed that they were making enquiries on my credit bureau, potentially making it harder in the future to obtain credit, that's why I hung up. I didn't know it's against the rules for someone to check your info with out permission, thanks.

That would totally p!$$ me off if they started calling my cell. I thought it was illegal for telemarketers to call cell phone numbers. It used to be not too long ago wasn't it?
But yeah, since I signed up on the list, I get these "free cruise" calls, and a few others all the time. Got one just a few minutes ago even. I've started to wonder if I signed up for the "oh please, call me since you can't call anyone else in Canada" list.
