Best Sub-$200 Digital Camera?

As the title suggests.. looking for a new camera to take with me overseas and don't want to spend a whole pile of money.

Any suggestions camera aficionados?

Whenever I needed a decent, but 'disposable' camera to give to my crew to take pictures with I would go to Future Shop and check out the discontinued/discount bins. I picked up some pretty decent camera for under $50.

They tend to be > 1 year old and mid range at best, so you may be looking for more than that.

Fujifilm point-and-shoots are the best in low-light, which is where you'll see the biggest variance in shot quality.

If you guys want a great point and shoot that also does manual stuff, check out Canon's G7 or G9. I am sure you can pick up a used one within your budget. It can do so much more than a little point and shoot. And the picture quality is great.

Disagree.

I had a fuji finepix that I absolutely hated. Worst quality camera I've ever owned. Fuzzy, grainy, and exceptionally poor in the dark. Mind you it was at least 5 years ago that I got that camera. It was one where the flash had to warm up for an hour and popped out of the top of the camera. BRUTAL. Turned me off fuji.

I am now a big fan of Canon. I have both the XTi and PS1100IS. To be honest, I love the fucntionality of the small guy that I rarely take out the big one unless I am really trying for something special.

Go for the Canon PowerShot series. Small, easy, and awesome pictures. Can't beat the colours you get from a Canon IMO. Also works very well at night even if you dont' know how to use a camera beyond "turn it on and click." Canon FTW!

5 years ago is eons though...

Of course, when I last seriously researched this it was about Feb '07, so almost two years ago. At the time Fuji was by far the leader in low-light point-and-shoot performance. Their cameras were pretty similar to this one which came out a bit later: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujifilmf31fd/. Here's a review of one of their newer models: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujifilmf50fd/. Whilst it doesn't have as much of a gap between itself and its competitors (part of Fuji's excellence with the F31fd stemmed from capping the megapixels at 6 MP, the F50fd has 12 MP), Fuji's Super-CCD sensor still has better noiser profiles than a normal CCD, and gets dpreviews "highly recommended" rating.

Now everyone don't laugh, but I'm really happy with the Kodak that I have. Kodak no longer makes the model I have, but they do make a similar model with improved features... the Kodak Z1012 IS
The feature which I like most about mine, which this one has too, is the 12x optical zoom. Great for zooming in for close ups.
