Taken and thrown around on HF a bit, possibly Carnage?
Thomas Haden Church was rumoured to play Sandman, but if Grace were to play Carnage, I would think that Church would be better off playing Venom (or even Ironman, who was Spiderman's sidekick in one of the series).

Wow, great casting news!!
Topher Grace is going to be a big movie star this time next year, bank on it. The guy has fantastic acting chops and his last movie In Good Company was actually very good.
Maybe a young electro?
Edit- Thomas Hayden Church as well... good casting.

My guess would be that he plays an evil Peter Parker, and he and Toby Maguire duke it out to see who's skinnier. Go Eric Forman Go.

I'm pretty sure Sam Raimi has said he'd never direct a film that involves Venom or Carnage (thankfully, as they both suck, IMO).

This was bantered around a bit on HF... it would create unnessary confusion for casual Spiderman followers. (Ben Reilly, Scarlet Spider)
Electro would make sense as well. So was Shocker. Neither of which I'd be a big fan of, since both of them were smaller, insignificant villians. I'd rather see Chameleon insteaed.
Carnage would be ideal. Too bad Church looks a little old to play Venom.

The next Venom has gotta be someone with some definition, I think somone with an Arnie body type (mostly for a contrast effect) would work extremely well.

I'm with you on that one, I am luke warm to Venon, and I hate Carnage.. just stupid characters.
With TH Church and Topher Grace joining the cast it looks like it's going to be a multiple villian movie. James Franco looks to be taking over the Goblin role (Harry Osbourne Goblin 2) and with those two it could be crowded.

Seriously? I was just kidding, just the fact that Topher Grace and Toby seem very similar to me: skinnier, kind of nerdier guys, atypical of superheros/villains (no offence to them as they both do fine work though)

Just say no to Ben Reily, or anything to do with the clone story. Juggling this many characters they are going to have to keep the plot line fairly simple, yet still move on with the main characters in terms development.
I like Hayden Church as Sandman, a character I've never loved but he could like amazing on the big screen.
Hobgoblin is another choice for Grace.. he finds a secret Goblin hideout, dons the gear. Could be a good "hero" to help Spiderman, you never know. At one point their was a 12 book run of the Goblin, a kid picked up the mantle, it was a good series.

Topher Grace would have been better saved for Movies 4-6 (although with everybody bowing out and the fact that its going past 3, its a bit overkill).
It's hard to think of characters that are kinda scrawny and nerdy after Carnage IMO. I have to admit I was a fan of the Venom/Carnage, but I somewhat enjoyed the whole marvel superhero's unite! in the tail end of the Spiderman series.
If its not Carnage, but guess would probably have been shocker. A nerd who designs some kind of suit and goes nuts. But teaming up with Sandman and a possible Green Goblin? I'm not sure I like the whole throwing-a-whole-bunch-of-villians-into-the-bag idea.
Plus, if Green Goblin 2 and Lizard arn't cast, it kind of takes away from the forshadowing of Spiderman 2... esp if GG2 isn't cast.

Well Green Goblin 2 (if it happens) is already cast.. James Franco. He would be the one to take up the Goblin mantle.
Maybe Topher will be playing Gwen Stacey, who knows. lol
I'm pushing for Paul Giamatti as Mysterio myself.

He is probably the clone dude with the horrible costume.
Topher should definitely be first choice for Robin.

I'd say just-say-no to Hobgoblin for the same reason as Spiderman clone - it just creates too much confusion.

James Fransco is cast, but its not given that he's gonna play GG2 (although one would assume so, but having these 2 other villans would hint otherwise unless he wants to go overboard with villans).

Hopefully it's the Lizard or Scorpion.
I would like to see the Shocker as an intro to the third movie where Spidey punks him out clean. I never liked Shocker.
And to those pulling for Mysterio... why???

My guess is that The Lizard, Green Goblin and maybe someone like Electro will be in Spiderman 3
I bet they'll promote it as 3 villains in movie #3 kind of thing

Topher Grace? Not really liking that. It's already going to give me the burden of having to take him seriously throughout the show.
Hopefully Spiderman 3 features Venom. The story between him and Spiderman is by far the most intriguing, entertaining and coolest one out of all during Spiderman's run. Venom was really the only character that I ever perceived as a serious threat to Spidey. The comics were cool, and especially the old Fox cartoon.
