A little OT. I really wish we had Carl's Jr / Hardee's in Alberta. They make the best fast food burgers. Huge portions, and you can get curly fries much like Arby's as well.

Well, if we are going to talk about American burger places, let's not forget about the Heart Attack Grill

I do like CBs as mentioned in Trouman's link. They are right up the street from St. Francis.

Perhaps this is blasphemy, but I really don't get what the big deal with Peter's is. This city seems to be so far up the ass of Peter's Drive-In ... personally I never understood it.

p.s. Your friend will like Tommy Burger. Very nice decor, very upscale place to eat. ... and then afterwards you can go next door to Mr. Shanks and have a few cold ones.
|
What he said. This place rules, really good food.
And the best part you ask? Garlic fries!!! It comes with a little container of garlic dip and oh man, I think i'm going there for lunch today!
Just make sure you don't have to be in any enclosed spots with anyone for the next few hours...

The food is good, but not great - but that's not why you go to Peters. You go to Peters because you've always gone to Peters. Call it tradition, call it comfort food - but its less about the food and more about just going there.

Thanks guys, opinions (and photos) are much appreciated.
Reading this thread it seems to be coming down to
1) Rocky's Burger Bus
2) Tommy's Burgers
3) Burger Inn
That picture of the bus is hilarious, I think I'm leaning toward trying that one tonight.

IIRC, it's only really open the same type of hours as the rest of the businesses in the area. More of a lunch meal for the hard working blue collar types in the area. One hell of a meal. Do not even attempt the double burger unless you're either KevanGuy or that giant black guy Rouge once posted a picture of.

I suppose you're right. As I didn't move to calgary until I was a teenager and I didn't actually try until I was about 19 I have little nostalgia associated with it.
Oh I forgot about the garlic fries from Tommy Burger. Tastes like garlic, feels like crack.

I thought that WAS rouge?
Yeah her flight doesn't get in until 8pm, so I guess the bus is probably closed by then. Poop.

Not Calgary, but I recommend Barba Bills in Banff. Add in some homemade fries and your set. mmmm.

I can't imagine how anyone can put down a double from Rocky's - I have enough trouble with just the regular single - that double is too much meat for me. (cue Fotze)

My favourite burger is the one you make on your bbq in your backyard, on a summer evening when the weather is just right, with a nice Big Rock beverage to go along with it.
That right there is still my favourite Calgary experience. You don't get that out here in the east, that's for sure.

I agree. I never really was a big fan of Peters. Nothing really special about their burgers except that they are drowning in BBQ sauce.
Now their fries are a different story. Do they ever give you a lot of them. Good too.

I can vouch for CB's. I don't recall the burgers, but the fries were always good. I used to take a girlfriend there back in the early/mid eighties.

Dont forget to add The Ship to that list then, especially given you need something open late.
We were talking about this at lunch today, and others agreed that the Burgers there are great.
