Default Ugh, I'm stooopid (Broken Glasses)

Today I decided to be cute and wear glasses to work.
The frame snapped in half. So now I'm blind.

So where's the best place to go for repairs over lunch? Glasses store or jewelry store?

Either would work, just go in and ask how fast it can be done.

I wouldn't have thought of going to a jewelery store for glasses... not unless they're made of diamonds and gold or silver.

How can you be "stooopid" for having broken glasses? I'd really love to hear the story on how they broke, it sounds like it can be a good one.... should I be checking the confessional thread?

It's a metal frame so I figured a jewelry store but I'm not sure.
I'm stooopid for wearing glasses to work more than breaking them.
I broke them in my hand while cleaning them.

MrMastodonFarm: Should I find some small jewelry store instead of the big fancy ones?

I'd try a jewelry store first, last time I broke my frames, I went to the glasses place first, they sent me to jewelry store.

Not every jewelry store will do it though. Try one, and they might be able to recommend one that can.

Tape the nose, or bust a lense out and wear a monocle (sp?)

It's really hard to say, some places do it, some don't. All depends on if they have a person who solders. I would definitely try a jewelry store first.

Maybe take 5 minutes and call a few places to see if they have a person who does it, and is there.

soldering, depending a bit on where the frames broke (I'll assume where the nose cross piece connects to the lens piece) may make your glasses not great any more. So just keep in mind that it's just a temporary fix. Although I think I wore my glasses for a year before I got new ones after I had them solder repaired.

Yeah just need temporary fix, I'm trying to get my prescription emailed/faxed to me (without success) and then will get new glasses soon.

Been a rough day :P

This is why I construct my own glasses from pipe cleaner and bits of beach glass. Works like a charm when I decide to take my righteous wrath out upon them while I clean them from time to time.

If you're blind, how are you going to be able to read the replies for advice?

Getting really close to the screen, and a whole lot of squinting.

And hope the person you're reading isn't constantly jiggling around for seemingly no reason other than to piss you off.

Good news: Found a place that does it.
Bad News: it's $30
Bad News: I can't pick them up til 3:00
Good News: I might as well go home after 3:00.

Thanks Gozer! That's the one post I don't have to squint to see.
Also while walking around, people think I'm staring at them.
