It's a pain being a female hockey fan in Pittsburgh--everyone assumes I'm just a fan because "OMG CROSBY IS SO HOT!"
It's always awesome when I talk to a guy at work, and I can just TELL when they assume that, and then I can absolutely shock them with the amount of hockey knowledge I actually have, that I can hold down a real conversation about the game, that I've been around since long before Crosby was even a remote possibility. I love that, it feels good to prove a guy like that wrong.

I don't know any girls personally that genuinely like hockey. I know a few that like to pretend so they can partake in the bar celebrations etc. I only know a handful of guys that are willing to talk with me about hockey.

^^I know exactly what you mean...people here think I just hopped aboard the Sharks bandwagon or something (like alot of the other female Sharks fans in SJ who adore Thornton) and don't really know anything. I love it when a guy realizes I actually know what Im talking about!

they let women watch hockey now???? Wtf ... glad i live in the south where we only let women out of the kitchen to bring us our food..... Im just kidding , but your right about women and hockey, there is a girl who sits next to me in one of my classes whom when i would wear a hockey shirt to class she would ask lil simple questions like who was my team and yada yada...
i thought like she knows anything.... turns out she is from okatoks and is here on schloarship for basketball but grew up a die hard flames fan ... she became my new best friend in class .

I have liked hockey since I started watching Hockey Night in Canada with my Dad, and it was a 6 team league then.
I play bridge on an internet site and my avatar is the Flames logo. And guess what? Everyone automatically thinks, hockey, sport, jock, guy.
You would not believe some of the comments I have received when they find out I am not a guy. You guys really have some lines these days!!!
