Just got the blizzak's put on yesterday. Could not have been better timing!

Did you guys know they only charge $55 to change tires off and on at Blaskin and Lane? I'm sure it varies with size of tire but damn that's a good deal!

I'll guess 137. 200 today shouldn't be topped since the snow is 'supposed' to stop tonight.

Just got home from a Xmas party. The roads aren't "bad"- once again as long as you know how to drive in winter conditions. A number of cars spun out in the ditch on Deerfoot though.

Of course heading up there I had some guy decide to pull out in front of me. I hit the brakes but there was no time to stop. I had to swerve to avoid him, and then of course recover from the skid without hitting the curb or the idiot that cut me off. (He was turning onto my road from a stop sign.)

Cutting off seems to be worse today, since people mis-judge the amount of time they'll need to get to speed.

Just curious, if roads are closed due to snow and you miss work are there any sort of paid snow days? Can you use sick time? The only way mother nature keeps me out of work is mandatory brush fire evacuations, and we won't get paid, but that only happens about once every four years.

The only roads that get closed due to snow are highways. Inside the city it's a free-for-all. If you're crazy enough to venture out, that's your prerogative.

Snow typically isnt an excuse to miss anything around here. Your office pretty much has to be on fire, or the Stampede has to be on to get a day off.

I realize this thread is about yesterday, but all in all, I didn't find things too bad this morning.

I mean... other than the jackasses doing 40 on Deerfoot, when you can clearly see the roads were fine (southbound between 17th and Glenmore, at least).

On my way to go see Metallica.

AWD, ABS, new tires, and for some reason I slid for like 40 feet at 5 kph... My buddy beside me had time to ask if I was joking, and I replied to him.

WHen we got home at 2 am, and there was noone on the roads I tried braking hard on spots that looked icy, and the tires dug in everytime!!!

Oh well I gues the wife gets a pimp billet grille on the Denali.

I've never lived in snowy/icy conditions. I have to drive to the mountains to see snow, and I've never even had to use chains because they clear the roads so fast. The problem with my user name is that I'm not very creative.

Ice was what all that popped in to my head when I registered shortly after making the transition from roller hockey to ice hockey. (it was very exciting for me)

I like extra ICE in my Diet Coke...

Yeah, I guess I'm just not very creative.

I did have to wear a jacket today, it was chilly. (for a wimpy Californian anyway)

Not to put you on the spot or anything, and you may have even answered this already before... but why the Flames?

Its kind of a boring story...few years back I worked with a girl who relocated here from the Calgary area. She was a big Flames fan. I was a big Kings fan. I took her to games with me, she made me watch the Flames with her. We both sort of took on second favorites. I really started paying attention when Drury signed with the Flames, even though it didn't work out well. The the 04 run happened and it was so exciting to watch. Then the Kings signed Conroy, and I had watched him play in Calgary so I was pretty happy he was coming to LA, even though it ended up temporary. I've always been a big fan of Jarome Iginla and even though I was disappointed Conroy was traded from LA I was thrilled it was back to Calgary. The Kings have been a disappointment for a long time now so it was nice having a second favorite team. I didn't ever expect to be so passionate about a second favorite, but its hard to avoid with this team, the personalities of the players, the way the organization is run, etc. The past two seasons I've found myself rooting for the Flames over the Kings in their games. The line between first and second favorite has become quite the fine line. Most people don't understand it.

That's awesome... it's always interesting (to me, at least) to hear stories about how someone became a fan of a certain team or whatever. I don't know why, I'm just weird like that. Thanks for posting that.

I keep asking my nephew why he's a Leafs fan (), but all he ever says is, "Canada's Team!"

Back on topic, there are probably less accidents because the roads were plowed, snow isn't falling anymore, and people are AT WORK and not driving around shopping.

When I first moved from Alberta to the Bay Area, I went and took a road trip with my roommate (who was from the East Coast in the USA) to Tahoe. When we arrived, they said we couldn't continue cuz we didn't have chains on my cars. I didn't undertand what in the world they were talking about because in Alberta when you go to Banff in the winter, I don't believe you have to put on chains (at least you didnt when I lived there). So I still dont know why some places use chains and some dont. But yeah, I did have to wear a jacket cuz it was cold up here in San Jose too...for a wimpy climatized Californian. I dont know what Im going to do when I go to Cowtown for Christmas. My just told me there's a bunch of snow there...when I was there for US Thanksgiving, there was no snow (just a bit on the ground but none falling). Good thing I dont have to drive there, or Id cause a LOT of accidents!
