icon54 hmm, wonder if this is legal?

Saw a poster for this company at the UofC today
http://www.calgaryflametax.com/
The website appears to have just been set up...

Well, even if the Flames didn't force a name change for the trademark violation, based on how amateur that website is alone, I'd stay the hell away from them.

It looks like it was built in Netscape Composer 2.0.

Lol, there are a lot of little errors on this site....poor attention to detail.

I'm no accountant but isn't attention to detail an important skill required to properly do taxes??

From what I can gather from the poster (and this site) the "accountant" (guessing it's actually a business student at the UofC) doesn't speak English as a first language

I will not publicly knock another bookkeeper / accountant; but I do see at least 2 red flags (I have not read the entire site).

If anyone is seriously considering using them, drop me a PM and I will point them out to you.

I'm also a tax guy, and while I'm not out to say anything negative about this person, the address posted: 99 Arbour Lake Way, is a residence rather than an office.

Hmmm.....

You can run a business from your home, with proper applications and licensing. It's actually pretty easy to get approval for an accounting or bookkeeping business due to the low, low traffic generated.

Oh, I'm well aware that you can but I dont know if I'd go to a completely random person's house to get my taxes done.

What if he was an axe murderer?

LOL. It is a very nice looking house, you would be going in style....

Some suggested it might be a student; looking at the hours of operations, it does seem likely.

Why bother keeping it a secret? Save us the trouble and post it

It would be unethical for me to criticize another bookkeeper or an accountant.

Those who have PM'ed me have also realized I am still not critical of this individual; I simply tell them how I do things in my business. They can then decide for themselves if my point is valid or not.

Wow... it looks minor league. It should be the Las Vegas Wranglers instead of the Flames.

Or a "film maker" from Edmonton?

Wow - that is a truly terrible website. These days when I see a website that bad, I become very wary that it is possibly a scam that someone threw together in 10 minutes. I don't think it is - just an amateur that really doesn't know what they're doing but that website doesn't fill me with confidence. Personally, I would not let this person/organization near my taxes.

Done.

Edit: Mr. King's going to have their lawyers contact the site owner.
