How many of those wannabe nations were denied recognition after negotiating to separate from their countries?

Again, like the Yugoslavia and Soviet Union examples, you have a country that comprised of entities that had a history of being independent countries but amalgamated for vaious political reasons. In the example of Czechs and Slovaks, the decision wasn't even their own. Not relavent to the discussion at all.
Irrelevant. Please answer the question: Given that Canada would be the first nation to recognize an independent Alberta (or Quebec), why would other nations not follow suit?

Show me an example of a country that became independent but; a) never had a history of independence, b) shares the same culture and language of the country it belonged to, c) did not suffer tragedies such as genocides, and d) is not inaccessible due to being overseas.
Irrelevant. We're talking about how the world might react if Alberta voted for independence. If you want to debate the likelihood of us getting to such a point in the first place, that's all well and fine, but don't change the subject because you want to dodge answering a pointed question.

Best example would be the landlocked nation of Tajikistan. The Tajiks never had their own country prior to the collapse of the Soviet Union; they were previously part of various empires and nations including the Samanid Empire and Bukhara. Their culture and language is a combination of turkish and persian, same as their neighbours. Though they were conquered by the Russians, they never experienced genocides. It's not a perfect comparison, but it's probably the closest. The key difference is that their independence wasn't exactly voluntary. The soviet union collapsed and they basically had no choice but to declare independence.

Im a power hungry failure? ( I THINK that's what you were attempting to say anyhow) Ummm...no, no power seeked here or I would of been involved with politics at a much higher level than I ever was.

But yes there are pro's and cons to Alberta seperating and becoming a sovereign nation.

And it aint treason if it is done legally.....which the left has been yelling about the coup all along I might point out.

Actually, I think it was the Con's that used the term "coup"...and they sit right of centre............

I disagree that there is a "legal" way to split up the country I love.

Have a wonderful day.

Not exactly a great case to support the recognition of an independent Alberta. It might work if the Alberta Cree were setting up their own government. That situation bares more resemblance to Tajikistan as they are a separate nation and were colonized by an imperial power.

They aren't the ones plotting the coup, however.

As Tranny says, your opinion does not change legal fact. We aren't the United States where it is argued that their constitution denies the ability to secede.

No and Yes.
No to the seperation of Alberta from Canada.
Yes to the seperation of wonky, right-wing yahoos from my province and country.
Thanks and have a nice day.

Edit: Wonky, left-wing yahoos also not welcome.
