I had the good fortune of getting a new car today...on the way home form the dealer my neighbor back out of her drive and into the side of my car. While calling her everyname in the book, her husband came out and things almost went out of control.

My girlfriend calls the police and they show up and give the lady a $115 ticket for backing up without control or something stupid like that. The husband told the cop it served me right cause he sees the car speeding up and down the street on a regular basis....IT HAS 50 KM ON IT!!! The cop laughed!!!!

Any advice??? They live 10 doors away from me......
Don't call her every name in the book, and deal with it like an adult.

Egg their house, like any other mature adult would handle it.

Screw that man, If my brand new car got hit while it was parked I'd be swearing a blue streak too. I'm sure everyone else here shrugs it off when someone wrecks something they've spent tens of thousands of dollars on...

You're lucky her husband didn't bash your goddam face in, and you deserve it... Grow up... Accidents happen, i've been hit a few times and it isn't hard to just shrug it off and get their insurance information like a mature person.

I understand it's a new car, but still...

Hell yeah Rogan. Its not like someone backed into my $500 Chrysler piece of turd. Its a new car man. Tell the woman off, then tell the man his wife's an idiot. Then tell the man he's an idiot for marrying an idiot. Then light their tree on fire cause its been dropping leaves up and down the neighbourhood.

Seriously though, make them pay for damages out of pocket so it doesn't screw up anyones insurance. Then hold a grudge.

Easy to say winsor, tougher to do when you are bringing a new car home.

Wow,I feel for ya berkshire9. That would really make me mad. And sad.
No advice for you,sorry.

I drive an old truck and an old car.
The truck has been hit when parked!
And This old guy backed into me in a mall parking lot and said to me "You should've swerved better" ....I had moved into the oncoming lane already.
I backed out to let a lady into a parking space and as I was leaving the lot,she backed into me. Nothing to my truck but at least 15 hundred to her van.And she asks me "Where did you come from" or the time some women had to get in the turn lane quick and latched onto my back bumper and kept driving!!!! waved at me as she scraped the whole side of her car. As if to say I'm okay if your okay.Bye!

Sell your car, move into the outback and denouce capitilism,it's the only way.

Eh, yes and no... as enjoyable as it would be to snap. You need to let your maturity take over in that situation and realize it was an accident. The last thing in the world the woman would want to do would be to back into someone.... think about it.

berkshire, what would you do if your girlfriend backed into a guy and the guy called her all kinds of names?

shinguard happens man...

Funny, you can pretty much divide the posters in this thread into two categories:

a) been hit by an IDIOT

b) not been hit by an IDIOT

What, its ok to arbitrarily back into people now? No more checking before you proceed? Its friggin springtime, its not like she skidded out into oncoming traffic. Top it off with the husband's claim that that car is always seen speeding up & down the lane... Right, with 0000050 KM on the odomoter.

I feel for ya man. While swearing doesn't solve much, it feels good at the time. Hey, a new ride tends to make guys lose it a little. No biggie. I must admit though, if it were my wife or g/f, I'd have kicked your ass. Try the whole name in the book thing on her, and well...

That depends....the husband was blaming me for driving up and down the street in the car speeding - told the cop that I always do it.

If my girlfriend got out of the car and started blaming someone else for her actions then I would not support her. This wacko comes out of the house and starts blaming me....

The woman was not even going to give me her insurance...said she had an important meeting to get to...I had to block her in until she produced documents. When I blocked her in husband became irate...my girlfriend called the police. [/b][/quote]
Fair enough then... I'd likely do the same in your case. It can't take more than 3 minutes to get the insurance information...

Damn you seem to have gotten a shinguardty deal today.

Can't say I balme you for the way you acted, espeically with a new car. I would be irate if the lady didn't give the insurance either.
But I'm sure things will get settled....

Just be cool man. She's not the best driver but it sounds like you pretty much started the fight and incensed everybody.

Most people I deal with, would be appologizing profusely and offering insurance information, but if you are aggressive on them, they will fight back and the husband has the right to protect his wife.

You are totally 100% in the right, but that doesn't mean it's right to call her everyname in the book. She is your neighbour, you know where she lives. She might have been late for something extremely important in her life. Yeah, it wouldn't have taken more than a few minutes, but shinguard happens in life and things just go bad when these things happen and people don't stay calm.

What have you got to worry about? The poor woman's humilated in front of a cop, the cop is the best witness you can have, and I'm sure you have insurance information now. In addition, they've been punished an extra $115 any other person wouldn't if they things hadn't escalated to the point where the police would have come in. You've also got a great story about a husband caught redfaced lying to a cop while you're vindicated. What else do you want?

Sure it's a new car and yeah, it may never be the same again (how bad is the damage?). Try taking it back to the dealer, sometimes, they agree to give you a new vehicle and they pawn the old one off to somebody else after it's been fixed.

4x4, how can you forget the catagory "was an idiot and hit somebody". I'm sure we've all had our idiot days and a few of us (me included) have had an accident on them. I for one felt terrible, miserable, guilty, and humilated all night for something I wouldn't do normally but I just had a bad day.

Geez there are a lot of forgiving folks around here.

There is nothing wrong with swearing, shouting and insulting in a situation like this. No need to get in a fistfight of course but calling a moron a moron doesn't hurt. Well, at least it doesn't hurt you.

Funny that he told the cop about your alleged speedy driving. He obviously got burned on that but what did he expect the cop to say -- "oh, you've seen him speed before? Smashing his car is therefore justified"?

There are other more vulnerable things on the street (pedestrians, bikes, skateboards, strollers) so hopefully a good berating and a hefty payout will make her check the mirrors next time.

Sometimes your girlfriend deserves it. Sort of joking!

It is tough to do.It is amazing what tests your temper, but maturity and driving don't seem to be inclusive.

Nobody wants an accident but most are preventable if you drive like a mature individual.Thinking about it. IT ! DRIVING!

Gee whiz I wish they had a drivers registry, take some dangerous weapons out of the hands of the common folk.

Here's what you do:

1) Call her every name in the book (including ####-fauge)

2) Call her every name in the book again (including ####-fauge)

3) Kick her husbands arse
