The big problem you find in NIMBY communities is that you win the battles but lose the war.
The city still grows - but if you always fight things head on things still change but it ends up being some messy half-change. No one wants to tear down an old crappy res-building in Sunnyside/Kensington because they can't make their money back on a 4 storey development. No new major cmmercial developments allows buildings to decay, street improvements to languish, and it opens the door to 'Safeways' on prime real estate. With an ambitous eye to managing growth that parcel of land would have been bought out and a major development would have gone in. Adding lots of cool small store front places and another 1,000-3,000 trendy residents above to keep the district alive in the colder months and weekdays. Instead you get that Safeway!
Mean-while, you get developments like Union Square, Arriva, Stella, Chocolate, The National, The Bridges, and everything in Garrison Woods building, defining and objectivily improving quality of life in other neighbourhoods instead of ruining it.
You have to manage change, not fight it. It is a war that one cannot win...
Claeren.

Thanks for the info guys.# I work downtown, and I will be moving to Rocky Ridge soon, so it's good to gauge how traffic is going to look like.

Good call on the thread TCMB! My fiance and I bought one of those Blue Sky condos they are putting up. She works at Foothills Hospital so it shouldn't be a problem. I'm moving back in the new year, and I have no idea where I'll be working, but I can imagine with the LRT and everything, traffic is gonna be bad!
|
Hey, that's pretty cool. I just bought the "esprit" there too. haha, we'll be neighbours. When's your posession date? mine's spring 06. [/b][/quote]
I'm moving there too this August. We have a thread full of neighbours!

To all of you that live in those Blue Sky Condos. SLOW DOWN on the main road entering your condos. I live on the Cul De Sac above and there are ton of kids playing around here. There is also playground right near your enterance. Mostly it is the workers speeding by, but the residents should take care as well.
The Co-op/VHQ/Subway/Liquor Store is super handy. All we need is a pub that I can stumble home from.

Its not me! I'm not moved in yet. When I have had to drive over there I do go slow because of the fricken massive potholes..
You guys should just request that those don't get fixed up, and once they sink enough no one will be able to fly down that road.

Yah they dont fix the paving until next summer I think. No point if heavy trucks and machinery are driving on it.
Check out Rocky Ridge Road near the Cascades of Royal Oak, you can get air off some of the pot holes and uplifted pavement that needs to be fixed ASAP.
I want that play house backing on to RockValley Drive (above the co-op)

Wow, there's THAT many of us living (or will live) at Blue Sky? My buddy, who also frequents this site, is moving there too. I think we can start like a CP gang or something. Overthrow the current condo board president and make our demands based on hockey related issues.

You're telling me. You should try going over some of those on a motor bike. (I live right by there so I've gotten used to them, but man they can sneak up on you if you aren't paying attention, or haven't been there before)

Nice. I'll be at Blue Sky Spring '06 as well. Just in time for the Stanley Cup run of 2006. With all the Flames fans there, 12 mile Coulee Road should be renamed Red Mile Coulee Road.
