Nice. You went straight for a Quebec poll. How convenient.
It's hard to argue against logic that astounding.

Well I thought you were too busy stealing our wallets and pushing us out the door to notice.
Lets be clear about this. Do not think that you can steal from Alberta under the guise of some sort of "environmental tax" and not have consequences for confederation.

And they are only garbage because they show that Canadians do not support your POV.
Nobody is claiming that online polls are scientific, but even someone as blind as you should be able to see the level of opposition to this coup.

Yeah I don't know if it's just the CP Liberal's who have no problem with this but I've talked to a bunch of Liberal/NDP supporters that are not happy with this move at all.
A fellow co-worker who "is not afraid to wear his politics on his sleeve" and "has never voted conservative in my life" said "if they bring down the government I'm seriously considering voting conservative next time" and that "to topple the government after 6 weeks before anything has been done is simply all about personal politics."
-One of our environmental guys, a guy who shares a car with a neighbor and lives in the heart of Sunnyside (yes, stereotypes for the win! )
Another friend of mine said "I feel betrayed by the Liberals" and feels that "there is no way this can be good for Canada".
-A bleeding heart Liberal Poli-Sci major who I swear would take a bullet for the party in a civil war if he had to.
To simply state that 57% of people voted for these 3 parties means 57% of Canadians are in favour is just not true. This move has pissed off more than enough Liberal/NDP supporters!

All the people spouting off about 57% should put their money where their mouths are, and not be afraid to have an election in January.
Then we'll see what Canadians really think about this.

Right Here! This man has it! If the Liberals, NDP, and Bloc are all so [mod edit- very] sure it is their time to run the country, lets go to an election, and see how the voting population sees this.

After watching the news last night and doing a little research, its likely that Harper will approach the governer General and ProRogue the parliment or shut it down. The GG does not have decision making ability on this, if its recommended by the Prime Minister, then Parliment is shut down, until the end of Jan. There will be no votes and no motions.
Then its likely on the first day back that the Conservatives will make a new crown speech that includes the Federal Budget. This obviously puts the opposition in a bind at that point. This is going to allow public sentiment to build against the coaltion, and if the Harper Government is smart they'll be all kinds of (I don't agree with it) stimuli in the budget kicking the legs out of this coalition.

I heard that it was still up to the GG to approve ProRogue.....at the end of the day it seems the GG has a fair amount of power over the outcome of this mess.

I was trying to understand what kind of Power the GG actually has, and something that came up was the fact that the queen still actually has some powers (is this true?) I was surprised to see that. And also that the GG has quite a lot of power but never actually uses it. Any experts on this?

That's what Trudeau did I believe. After the Clark government was defeated he was asked by the GG if he thought he could govern and he told the GG that it was best/proper if it go to an election to see if he could get the mandate from the people.

Governor General can just say 'No'
http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/opi.../35357989.html
“Fortunately, there is a third way, and one that has a good deal of constitutional precedent. The Governor General could simply refuse to accept Harper's resignation, just as prime ministers and premiers in the past have often refused to accept letters of resignation from cabinet ministers. The Governor General could say that accepting Harper's resignation is not in the best interests of the country because it would set in motion a choice between two unacceptable alternatives.
In effect, the Governor General would send Harper back to negotiate an economic package that could secure majority support in the House. She would implicitly instruct the opposition parties to make this Parliament work. She would exercise the discretionary power that the Constitution has wisely placed in her hands. She would just say no.”
|
I wonder if this would happen. I also wonder if it even could happen, since the Three Stooges have shown absolutely zero desire to work with anyone but themselves.

Nope, they had a parlimentary expert on CTV last night who was insistant that the GG cannot deny a prime minister who is going to use ProRogue to shut down parliment. Once Harper makes that decision, her only role is to grant the ProRougue and then recall Parliment on the date choosen by the Prime Minister.

I don't see why the GG wouldn't grant ProRougue. The governor general has never not granted it. And I would doubt that she would want to get that involved in Parliment.
Especially with how happy Canadian's sound about this whole situation.

Not only was she appointed by a Liberal, but the knock against that appointment was that her and her husband were both confirmed Separatist sympathizers.
