I know we'd never see it with how partisan politcs are these days, but I think it would be good for the country.
I wouldn't have a problem with that, given the alternative.

There's certainly enough Liberals that jumped off the Dion train within minutes of election results, and although he's being put in there in this plan as simply a placeholder with the hope that he can last long enough to put the next Liberal leader in as PM, I think the Liberals will be smart enough to see that the coaltion plan, and Dion at its helm, will do more damage to that party in the next election (whenever that is) then it will do good, nevermind the permanant association and taste of being in bed with the NDP and Bloc.

That said, it would have to be all or none for the Liberals to agree to this, and not sure the "blue" Liberals have enough swagger to convince the other 60% or so further left of center liberals.

Layton and Dion have already committed to spending 30 BILLION dollars to some unknown stimulus package...again, where do you think they will be getting that money from?
Maybe the same place that Harper was going to get it from when he got around to announcing his plan that apparently he hasn't been given the chance to do.
So either no plan was going to come, or there would have been one with some dollars handed out coming from somewhere.

I've heard on some news reports speculation that the Con party isn't happy with Harper for leading them into this mess. Perhaps the cons do just this. Get an alliance with the Liberals instead of being turfed but as part of the deal Harper goes. Don't know if that's possible just throwing it out there.

I could live with Jim Prentice. He was my pick in their last leadership convention.

This guy is the biggest corporate tool in the party. I much prefer Harper.

How bout instead of an election have a referendum (they're cheaper right?)

You can vote for

Conservatives or Coalition.

Winner governs.

This is how it "works" in Europe in countries with multi-party systems. I can't say if it is any better or worse than the two party system that the US has.

on one hand I'm thrilled that Harper might get ousted

on the other, I'm disgusted that Layton and Duceppe have a hand in policy.

I can live with the coalition because even though I hate Duceppe and Layton, I hate Harper more.

Dion and Iggy, back to back PM's

That would be funny.

Seems like a good guy, even somewhat socially progressive having voted for gay marriage, or at least stated he was going to apparently.

I can't tell you how much I'd like to read a thread on that here! Some of the posters here would have choice comments about Dion being the Minister of International Affairs, or Ralph Goodale as Minister of Finance.

Personally I think that would be fine...but the thread would be very entertaining!

It wasn't the Liberals that wanted Dion to be the PM in waiting. Layton and Duceppe insisted on it.

I'm all for a referendum, but that isn't the question I'd want asked.

I'd like to see the reaction in Ottawa if Alberta starts tossing around the "R" word. I'm guessing there would be a lot less of the rhetoric and negative propaganda addressed our way.

No, they KNOW he's not fit to run the country, which makes it easier for Jack and Gilles to run it.

Didn't see anything like this posted:

The shopping list:

http://www.calgaryherald.com/Busines...194/story.html

this stood out for me
Creation of a new Crown corporation to manage the employment-insurance program so all revenues are used for benefits and training for workers.

It's been a few years since I was up on this sorta thing, but I think thats a gargantuan surplus thats been spent on other things for years. That alone might be a massive deficit.

Taxpayers are doomed.
