Well I'll chime in with one that bugs me due to overplay. The Rickards White commercial where the guy asks for a beer and the bartender (who looks like Bob Gainey) puts his hand down to his crotch and you see a bright orange glow....and he smirks. I think of Austin Powers Goldmember every frig'n time that commercial plays.

Here's some more that bug the hell out of me (they all have the same guy if you notice):
Suzuki commercial with skunk in the backseat, the salesman. He then shows up in a Mars commercial where he is stacking books on the shelf, and then he invented the Angus burger in the McDonalds commercial. Same frig'n guy in every commercial. Someone kick him in the junk!

scotiabank "I want a second opinion on my investments".....isn't that from 10 years ago? I do notice that they no longer say "you're richer than you think" even though it's displayed in the commercial. Hard to convince the public of that given the economic crisis right now.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but with it being a Rogers phone couldn't you just put your current SIM card into the new phone, and voila- it has a plan on it?

As I read this, I realized 2 things: I also hate that commercial, and I have absolutely no idea what it is advertising...I don't even know what type of product. It could be an ad for cell phones, cereal, or the Mormons for all I know.

^I hate that freaking commercial too. And I have young kids and if they decorated the tree I'd probably think it was cute, but I wouldn't let them throw the damn star into the tree, and I surely wouldn't leave the top half bare. And you're right...what in the world are they advertising? Is it a lame Canadian Tire commercial or something? I have no idea.

My least favourite is still (and I know it's been mentioned already in this thread) that stupid Secret commercial with the woman who can't seem to keep her arms down. And when she smells her armpits I want to punch her.

Just a question but has anyone seriously not bought something from a store based solely on the commercial ticking you off.
I have, most of the time I would not shop at the store anyways but I remember a couple years ago there was a Petro Canada commercial (I cannot even remember what it was about now) and I have not been to one in about three years now based on just that commercial.

The two that are currently bugging the hell out of me:

Enterprise Rent-a-Car:

I hate the old lady who says: "If it wasnt expensive why didnt you rent me a bigger car?"

I want to kick her head off. You're getting wherever you're going, 10 seconds with a pickaxe could change all that, now shut the hell up.

Scotiabank:

"Who put the Art Ross trophy in the closet? Jarome!"

Iggy: "Hey bitch, I won the damn thing, I can put it wherever the hell I want, you can complain when you win one, now get back in the kitchen, kick Sittler in the nuts and bake me a pie!"

I've worked in the media and have a sense about the making of ads. There are ads that I dislike also, but do you guys have any idea how hard it is to always be creative and come up with great ideas within the bounds of a budget? Likely not. Try coming up with bright, new, creative ad ideas for breakfast cereal, financial products, cell phones and the like. There is always the option of ignoring the commercials that you don't like. Not judging you folks; just sayin'.

I can appreciate that but I'd rather see a straight-forward, informative commercial about a product than someone trying too hard and making it worse. If you don't have the tools to sculpt art, just make a damned spice rack.

I have to say that may not always be the case; often the ad companies get swept up in what they think is a good idea, and ignore what people want.

Case in point; a few years ago I was on a focus group- deciding what ads would get aired regarding "Don't steal satellite signals." The one we unanimously picked was the one that was aired- the one with the "thug-looking" guy and the tagline "this man is about to steal something." He walks by an old lady holding her purse, an unlocked bike, then goes home to his young son and turns on the TV.

My group picked this one because of all the ads we saw; it was the only one that had a line at the end saying "On May 25, 2002 the Supreme Court of Canada rules that doing X was illegal, and punishable with fines and imprisonment."

Unfortunately the ad company said "They liked that ad- let's air it. Just get rid of the mumbo-jumbo at the end."

Now when I look at ads on TV I see one part that may have been redeeming to the focus group, but the ad company looked at it wrong and made the ad terrible.

If this is the guy who I'm thinking of..........yeah. I think there was one ad where he says "I love you" about three times in the thirty-second spot.

If they are such good friends how do they not know his mother?

The other ones are terrible as well, why would her parents buy a plan for the cell phone thats a gift, months in advance..... lame.....

I want to smack all of those kids...
I am in total agreement in hatred of these stupid kids. There's the sad-sack Charlie Brown type who never seems to get the phone he wants, the blonde idiot who opens her gifts a month early, the comedian with the big afro always ready with a hilarious quip, the mousy brunette who is always giggling because she is likely stoned, and the vaguely ethic fellow who is never permitted to speak. What a nice, diverse group of annoyances. I can't stand them. Rogers owns so many media outlets that it's hard to get away from them though. Let's hope they soon go the way of the Bell beavers...

...what annoys me about this commercial too is that the lady driving the car, the Enterprise employee, has that stupid smug look on her face when she shakes her head after hearing the old bag say "MUST BE EXPENSIVE..."

... both of them should be tied to a tetherball post and relentlessly beaten by a group of gradeschoolers doped up on sugar.

The Axe Dry deoderant commercial with the guy who has firehose armpits, spraying disgusting amounts of sweat in everybody's face. Totally gross.
