UPDATE:
Michael Ignatieff will become Prime Minister in a Liberal-led coalition government if the opposition parties succeed in bringing down the Conservatives in a no-confidence vote in the House of Commons next week and if the Governor-General deems it to be a viable alternative, sources said late last night.

Absolutely no one pins even a sliver of blame on the Liberals, the NDP or the Bloc. Of course not. Faced with the unreasonable and extreme proposal that they raise funds in the same way as the Conservatives have been doing for years — by asking people for their money, rather than taking it from them — they really had no alternative but to seize power. What on earth were they supposed to do? Revamp their moribund fund-raising organizations? Find a message and a leader capable of motivating large numbers of Canadians to click the “donate” button on their websites? Get off their collective duffs? What were the Tories thinking?

And on top of that, then you're voting for a threeheaded leadership...certainly not a strong leadership structure for a country even in the best of times, let alone when the country needs strong direction one way or another....nevermind with those 3 particular people being at the top.

Look, I'm sure noone wants to see another election and I'm sure cooler and more rational heads in the Liberal hierarchy will most likely abort an alliance that would hurt their party in the long run. However, give credit to only one person for this debacle. Sweaters. Someone should very carefully and repeatedly tell this monarch that a minority rule government is just that. He keeps trying to bully and legislate like he has a majority. He keeps playing chicken and then when he realizes that the other parties finally call him on it, he backtracks on three major announcements he made. If he is lucky, maybe Iggy and some other liberals will meet with Harper and heal some of the friction that exists. As for the separatists, telling Quebecors that they are a nation within a nation is not really uniting Canada either. Kowtowing to the province of Quebec is not unique to any one party.

This to me is extremely undemocratic, not only is he going to become an unvoted for Prime Minister, but he didn't even go through the Liberal leadership machinations.
Harper should approach all of the Liberal leadership hopefulls and their supporters and convince them to cross the floor.
I almost hope that this happens because frankly this coalition will last only as long as the Liberals and NDP are willing to satisfy the Bloc who's demands are going to be huge.
Even with this Junta, we'll see an election right after Parliament reconvenes after Christmas.

What's with the bold? Methinks you're enjoying Canada's collapse into terror and chaos a little too much.

Wow. This beast keeps on rolling.
All partisanship and current situation aside, I don't like the idea of a man who has never run in a federal election becoming PM of my country.

The email to Macleans presumably was signed;
" Karine Leroux
Office of the Prime Minister / Cabinet du Premier ministre
Deputy Press Secretary / Attachée de presse adjointe"
Do you think that is a hoax? Do you think Macleans would print someone's name if they could not verify the source?

I am not enjoying it. I just thought it was important. I also don't think we are "collapsing into terror and chaos".
Edit: There, I removed the bold. Sorry if it came off as unappreciative of the situation.

I agree completely. I will actively refrain from recognizing him as my PM.
He wants to lead my country? Then he needs to ass out there and convince Canadians to ELECT him. This piece of work will NOT be my PM.

If any of the current parties are not working towards a sensible minority government, it's the Liberals/NDB/Bloc. I still cannot get a straight answer from anyone: what did the Conservatives do to deserve this? They tabled issues they were in favour of, and then removed them from their plans when it was evident that they would not work in this parliament.
6 weeks into this new government, and the 300 million dollar election is for naught. The CPC will no longer have any power whatsoever in this new majority government led by our natural ruling party. Makes me want to puke.
I'd write to my conservative MP, but his website is down. I'd call the CPC directly, but nobody is there to take my call this Sunday.

True, but I don't think anyone of a NDP, Lib or Bloc stripe would let it leak.
Regardless, it was obviously obtained through unscrupulous means.

There needs to be a vehicle in place (outside of an election) for letting Parliament know that this is not acceptable. Sitting here being forced to watch this happen and not be able to do anything about it is completely maddening.

It's just hilarious as Nekhara and others have gone on and on about the Conservatives "reliance" on big business. What do you think the outcry would be if Harper was recorded saying, "Well, I met with the chairmen of every single oil company. I can tell you they are sympathetic and supportive etc..."
Big Labour wants this for the infrastructure dollars.

The general opinion is that the Conservatives are not addressing the economic situation faced by the country and the opposition parties believe that action must be taken to avert further economic crisis and the Conservatives appeared wholly unwilling to do such a thing.
Added to that, the Conservatives did their best to irritate the opposition parties with the massive funding cuts to political parties (when the opposition parties were in bad shape financially) and a ban on allowing federal civil servants to strike.
That's what I know of the situation.

Probably. But then again, as we speak, so is the office of the Prime Minister...
