Sorry, but like 400,000 stinking useless hippies managed to produce the greatest musical event in the history of the planet.

So you must not enjoy the music of any of the following "hippie" artists:

*More famous acts have been put in larger font, especially given their continued relevance today in 2008:

Richie Havens
Swami Satchidananda
John B. Sebastian
Sweetwater

Arlo Guthrie
Joan Baez
Quill
Keef Hartley Band
Santana
Canned Heat
Grateful Dead

Creedence Clearwater Revival
Sly & The Family Stone
Janis Joplin
The Who
Jefferson Airplane
Joe Cocker
Country Joe & The Fish

Let's not go into whether rock and roll was created by hippies. It wasn't.

I wasn't going there at all.

I was simply stating, that based on your comment I quoted that it would be fair for me to infer that you were not a fan of the music of any of the listed artist because they're dirty hippies and you don't like the art they make.

This has NOTHING to do with the origins of Rock n Roll which is another debate entirely. For the record, there was much more music at Woodstock than the very narrow and idiomatic genre of "Rock and Roll".

There's my generalization
Well at least they keep the plastic surgeons employed

It is unfair to cast all hippies as bongo players. Most hippies are not bongo players, and not all bongo players are real hippies. In fact, I'd say most of the bongo playing I've heard has been from 3rd year Oppression Studies students who have no sense of rhythm and are only playing the bongos because they think it's a cool thing to do at protests. There may be some really cool bongo playing going on out there... unfortunately, that other lot has spoiled it for me.

Good point.....I've heard some incredible bongo and conga drumming at Cuban hangouts in Miami.

Stellar bit of information. I am going to get myself a set and sit outside the exam hall doorway playing my bongos during the POLICSCI 411 exam.

Odd how a musical instrument that's pretty much of Cuban origin came to be associated with hippies.

The banjo is an instrument of African origins and somehow it has come to be associated with Southern rednecks.

For the most part...I've actually used my Poli Sci degree to an extent working in the public sector. It's not completely useless.
