Yeah, pretty sure the Cats needed to win that one to get in. They outplayed the Griz significantly in the frist half, but turned it over a couple of times, and got stopped on a goal line stand.
The Griz warmed up in their usual maroon/silver uniforms in pre game, even had them on for the coin toss. Then they came out of the tunnel wearing the old school duds, coaches and all.
Here's a good link with video highlights and clips of the entire game as well.

I would like to see them play someone other than a Big 10 team as well...only because they roll whomever they play from that conference as of late. Doesn't help me sleep much better, but it makes things a bit different/interesting.
In fact this year, I would LOVE to see them play whomever out of the Big 12 that doesnt get the NC game. Any one of those video game like offenses against the best defense the NCAA has seen in decades....would be a good match up IMO.
|
The first goal for any team is to win your conference. I think Penn State could certainly make it interesting this season if it comes down to that matchup.
I'm secretly hoping that USC could somehow play Florida. But that would mean that Bama beat them in the SEC Championship, I don't really like Florida, but I can't stand Alabama!!!
Since LSU is only a championship contender in odd numbered years, I'd like to see the SEC get another national title, keep that "overrated conference" reputation going. It'll help with our title run next season...

On a totally unrelated note, my roomie apparently sat next to the Griz coach at a Mexican restaurant in Missoula last week, the night before their Idaho st(?) game. Said he was a pretty nice guy.
He's turning into a Griz fan haha.

I was fortunate enough to not have to play against him in High School, he was a few years older than me. I did have the pleasure of sacking his High School successor Ryan Leaf once...

Thanks for the link Moe. Looks like I will actually get to watch the first round game as it starts at 6 my time. Sweet!
Hope Mariani is ok. He looks like a possible NFL receiver to me

jeez, taking a look at the sooners sched this year, only 2 teams held them to 35 points (Texas and TCU). they've scored over 49 in every other game, including 58, 62, 66, and 65 in their past 4. WOW. that's puttin points on the board.

Bracket is set for the playoffs.
Montana gets an interesting draw with a possible rematch against Weber (which would be in Missoula) or a rematch against Cal-Poly, a team they beat early in the season. However, Cal-Poly's only other loss came this week. The dropped a decision to Wisconsin 36-35 in OT in Madison. Impressive.
Should be a ton o' fun for anyone that can get past they "it's not division 1 so it isn't real football crap'.

Awesome....imagine that, a 16 team playoff that doesnt start for a week, but will be done 6 days before Christmas!! Somehow though....6 weeks to the BCS gurus it's not doable. Larf.
How about Appalaichan St. though? Just a remarkable program and an unbelievable run thhey have been/are on. Wouldnt be surprised one iota to see them 4-peat.

Same, somewhat aged guy. I mean, what he accomplished at K-State is really incredible...and I'm not KSU fan. That was the single worst football program in Divsion 1 for years and years on end and he turned it around. He's got a Bill Walsh like coaching tree with the likes of Bob Stoops and Mark Mangino tutoring on his staff before turning around their own programs (at least in the case of Mangino).
But there was a reason he retired. He's getting up there. I've been told by some insiders that the guy worked like 18 hour days year round when he was the head coach. That's an awful lot to ask of yourself as an older guy.
Will be interesting for sure.
Here's a link now. That didn't take long to get out!

Me either.
I really don't have a great feeling about Montan's chances to be honest. They haven't been the dominant force that they usually are this season. But, they do seem to be playing their best ball now at the right time.
Villanova is another program that seems to be there every year. My little brother had HS teammates play at both Montana and Villanova.

As a Texas Alum and fan I am surprised that UT is ahead of OU. Probably will change when OU beats OK st. Funny thing is OU has to win that game for UT to have any chance of being big 12 champs. My dream scenario is OU and UT winning out, Alabama getting stunned by Auburn and then beating Florida so we could see a UT-OU National Championship.

Here's yet another possible flaw in the system.
Say OK gets beat by OK St this weekend. That would mean TT and Texas would be tied for the conference championship game birth from the South division...but because TT beat Texas, they get the nod. Now imagine that TT wins the Big 12.....how could you possibly not put them ahead of Texas in the final rankings? They beat them head to head, won their conference, but because the BCS system dictates such....its almost probable that Texas would be heading to the NC game. TT would be relegated to one of the Sugar or Cotton bowls most likely, and OK and OK ST both whiff completely as far as BCS games.
All pure speculation at this point, but certainly not completely improbable. Its just a stupid/dumb/broken system....period.

LSU! LSU! LSU!
What a great season from the Tigers, but I guess all their moron fans will be happy because USC lost one game this year.
Note to Arkansas moron coach (and all moron coaches out there) :
Why squib kick when up by less than a FG?
It is the dumbest move in football and gives the team a much better chance to win. It already cost the Bears a games this year in the NFL.

Feel better?
As a "moron" LSU fan, I'm not happy with their season. I expected them to lose 3 games. (UF, UGA, either AU/Bama) Any more would have been a disappointment, any less would be a pleasant surprise. So yeah, I'm disappointed.
Losing their starting QB to moron disease in pre-season didn't help, I'm confident that the QB battle in spring ball/fall practice will be fantastic. Playing two Freshmen made this year a bit of a struggle, but it will pay off in 09.
LSU plays best in odd numbered seasons, when they get Auburn, Arkansas and Florida at home. So I'm looking forward to next year already. They have become a good enough program that they will always be able to put together wins on talent alone. They open next season at Washington. Southern Cal gets the benefit of playing those creampuffs every year! I hope LSU is up to the task, see you there?
But yeah, USC choking against inferior opponents every single year is a bit satisfying.
Agreed on the squib, that was not a bright move.

I wasn't calling all the fans morons just the ones that I have seen relishing in the USC loss while their own team was having a terrible year (for a supposed top program).
And yes I do feel better. I always feel good when another overrated SEC team loses a creampuff game they should win.
