Just downloaded it. Maybe I'm crazy, but it seems like google streetview isn't in Calgary.
OTA podcast downloading is sweet, though. You can even update video podcasts!

Yeah, no Street View for Calgary (or anywhere in Canada). Rule of thumb: if it isn't available in the web-based, desktop version of Street View, then it isn't available in the iPhone version either.
Of note, for the jailbreakers/ unlockers in the house:
Quote:
Sir, step away from the keyboard.
So, as anticipated our friends the misfits have recently released the long awaited 2.2 update. We can confirm that this update SHOULD NOT be applied using iTunes if you want the chance of a soft-unlock in the near future.
If you want to keep that option of a ‘soft-unlock in the near future’ available but you want the new features of 2.2, you will be able to update to 2.2 using a PwnageTool created custom ipsw file that disables the baseband update. You will be able to do this using an updated version of PwnageTool that will be released sometime soon.
Some facts -
* The 2.2 firmware for 3G contains a baseband update for the 3G iPhone
* The 2.2 firmware for 2G (1st gen iPhones) doesn’t contain a baseband update and the baseband is still at 04.05.04
* We believe that our Pwnage technique (and therefore the Jailbreak) isn’t affected, but PwnageTool and QuickPwn do not support this release as yet, so DO NOT install 2.2 using iTunes as you will lose your jailbreak
* If you apply this update and you previously relied on PwnageTool or QuickPwn to activate your phone, it may become temporarily deactivated and unusable (until we release the new version of PwnageTool or QuickPwn).
* PwnageTool and QuickPwn updates will be released as soon as possible that will allow a safe update path to 2.2 the release of these updates is inevitable but not imminent, we are creating the modifications right now and we need to put the new software through the usual testing process.
* If you apply this update and you have third-party (non AppStore) applications that you rely on they will stop working.
* 2G (1st gen) iPhone users who cannot wait for the new PwnageTool or QuickPwn can safely “Update” to 2.2 using iTunes, this will preserve the existing activation. However “restoring” to 2.2 using iTunes will return the iPhone to the unactivated state. If you are in any doubt just wait. NB: This works for 2G ONLY.
* The use of SIM-Proxies (small circuit boards/chips that sit underneath the SIM card) to provide GSM/UMTS service on your locked iPhone 3G is a method that we have always advised against. Early reports suggest that the 2.2 update disables the functionality of these devices. The techniques used were always unreliable and we are surprised that they have lasted this long.
* We are not working on the 2nd generation iPod touch at the moment, so we cannot comment on what the the 2.2 software update may do to this specific model

Pretty cool. I'm getting the feeling this update pretty much eliminates the need for the app I paid 99 cents for that helps me email a map location. I LOVE being able to do that.
I love that I can get podcasts on the go now. Not sure why this wasn't implemented earlier, but regardless I'm pleased the feature is here.

Yeah, I have never even tried to use StreetView before, but I thought there was a thread here where people were commenting on Google taking pictures in Calgary.
Also, I wish there was an option to subscribe to a podcast on one's iphone/ipod. Seems like something obvious they missed.
UPDATE: Turns out, iPod touch users don't get an update to Google Maps at all. WTH is that about?

I wish I could revert back to 1.1.4.
All these 2.x versions are slow as poo and make me less than happy.

I'm still waiting to be able to attach photos to text messages....I've tried some applications, but they just sent the person a link to download from the web, rather than actually attaching the photo.

I'd also be on board if they gave us the ability to email more than one photo at a time. That being said they should probably tackle the texting photo thing first ... gotta walk before you can run I suppose.

I understand that touch users wouldn't be able to use the maps functions as much (seeing as they need to be on wifi for maps to work), but I don't really understand the need to bar them completely from the function. Kind of strange if you ask me.

Podcasts in the iPod application
The ordering of podcasts in the iPod application has changed when viewing mutliple episodes of the same podcast. The oldest are now displayed at the top, with the most recent at the bottom. Now they'll play through in order, rather than in reverse order like they did in previous firmware versions.
FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!
Improved stability and performance of Safari Yup!
Podcast streaming
Tapping a Podcast's episode's name will result in the podcast being played via streaming (instead of a straight download). Ummm... this is HUGE. It gets around the 10 MB limit on the 3G network for downloading files. Sneaky, sneaky Apple!

My phone has been a piece of crap since I upgraded. Battery life seems worse (from half full to dead from 8:00 this morning to right now, no surfing, no wifi, just being a phone). My phone has completely crashed a half dozen times, i.e. locked so bad I had to do a hard reboot. Playing music a few times it's frozen up skipping on a specific place in the music.
This is above the popping and crackling I get a lot, the failure to detect removing or plugging in headphones, etc that I've had since I got it.
Maybe my phone does have a hardware problem.

Holy crap that seems abnormally bad. I can only speak from my own experience but I haven't noticed a single one of those problems. Perhaps you should go pay a visit to the apple store?

Can the Apple store replace a defective unit? Or do I still have to send it in for that?

I can't say for sure, but my guess is that they'll just help you out with the process of sending it away. A buddy of mine took his dad into the apple store after his dad accidentally dropped his iphone and broke the glass screen. They told him they've seen the screen break when it shouldn't so they just ordered him a new one free of charge. They may not offer you anything you wouldn't otherwise get over the phone, but they might be easier to deal with.
