Yeah... I searched for 'run' on the draft board, should have searched 'lola' (rennt).

Great movie, though; if you're interested in more of the same (ish) from the same director check out Burns' more recent Radiant City, which continues on with similar themes - albeit more bleak - to those in waydowntown. Also filmed in Calgary.

I almost picked it for my foreign pick just because I liked the idea of choosing a "foreign" film that was shot downtown.

From my vantage...

Ro has this draft locked up. Great picks.

For our last pick, we're going to move Ed Wood from Doc/Non-fiction into Black & White, thus opening Documentary/Non-Fiction in order to select, my personal favorite concert/music documentary... Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii!

Showcasing the band at it's creative peak, on the cusp of their commercial/mainstream explosion (the period between Meddle and Dark Side of the Moon), Live at Pompeii can only be described as one helluva trip. That gong... It haunts my dreams.

I fixed the Draft Board, Proto. Sorry, normally I do provide alternate titles but forgot about RLR.
I also love the idea of a 'Foreign' film from Calgary

Ronald, I'm saving my judgment for after everyone has picked, but Ro's team is at the top of the list for me too. But he's not alone there.

With its final pick, Team Pineapple Express is happy to select in the final Wildcard spot, Pineapple Express. I know reviews were mixed about this film, but I really enjoyed it. I love Seth Rogen and James Franco, and I thought they were both pretty good in this. Having said that, for me the film was stolen by the character of Red, played by Danny McBride. I was laughing my behind off everytime he was on screen. When he mentioned shaving his armpits because it makes him aerodynamic when he fights, I lost it. Maybe I am just simple though, who knows?

Anyways, I figured this would be a fitting last pick, to complete my tribute to Seth Rogen, by picking the film I named my team after.

Youtube stuff:

Trailer:

Little diddy on Danny McBride:

****The following are NSFW (some questionable language and content)****

"Sporty Spice"

"I'm glad I dipped in your ink, bro"

"It looks like my thumb is my... "

Meeting Red:

Thanks for the draft, it was fun!!

Before our final selection, Direct2Video would like to extend our greatest thanks to GirlySports for hosting such an awesome draft, and to the other teams & GMs for producing such a great, high-quality thread. Kudos!

Now without further ado, with our final Wildcard pick Direct2Video selects The Matador.

Summary from Wikipedia:
Quote:
An encounter in the bar of the Mexico City branch of the Camino Real Hotels, between tired businessman Danny Wright (Greg Kinnear), hoping to land a life-saving contract in Mexico, and jaded, falling-apart-at-the-seams assassin Julian Noble (Pierce Brosnan), leads both men into an awkward friendship. Noble is confronting the immorality of his profession and experiencing a mid-life crisis that causes him to freeze on a job. His bosses want him dead, so Julian flees and visits Danny at his home at Christmas, looking for a place to stay. That night, he shares the real reason for his visit: he needs help with one last job. His last target happens to be his old boss, who, after much internal struggle and with Danny talking him through it, Noble assassinates his old boss at a Tucson horse race track.
James Berardinelli's thoughts:
Quote:
It's not hard to be enthusiastic about The Matador, an uncommon buddy film starring Pierce Brosnan and Greg Kinnear. The movie has a nicely modulated mix of comedy and pathos, but succeeds as much because of the two lead performances as Richard Shepard's writing and directing. This is an audience-pleaser through-and-through...

Together, Danny and Julian make an appealing pair - something that's mandatory for the story to work. They're an odd couple, to be sure, but each fills a need for the other. It can be difficult to find the right mix of comedy and drama in a movie of this nature, but Shepard does a solid job. There's nothing edgy or groundbreaking about The Matador, but it's funny, touching, and ultimately endearing - and it's tough to ask more of this sort of film.
Some great quotes:

Julian Noble: Margaritas always taste better in Mexico.
Danny Wright: They certainly do.
Julian Noble: Margaritas and c*ck.
-----
Julian Noble: I'm as serious as an erection problem.
-----
Julian Noble: Sorry about the c*ck thing, it's kind of a conversation stopper.
-----
[trying to convince Danny to help him on a hit]
Julian Noble: Come on! It'll be a good time!
Danny Wright: Oh, so now killing people is a good time?
Julian Noble: ...Can be.

hmmmm, last pick, what should I take?

I'm mean, nasty and tired. I eat concertina wire and piss napalm, and I can put a round through a flea's ass at two hundred meters, so why don't you go hump someone else's leg, muttface, before I push yours in...

The Clint Eastwood war classic, Heartbreak Ridge.

I can probably quote the entire film. Surprisingly, it was even nominated for an Oscar in the Best Sound category.

Please asskick me. Given that my last pick is in the musical category, I think it's fairly safe that none of the movies I'm considering will get picked up in the next few spots.

Czure is up.

Train Wreck? That is easily one of the funniest movies to come out in my generation. But then again, I enjoyed Kung Pow as well. Take it for what it's worth.

Kenny "Squeak" Scolari: Your mother's deaf...
Ed Tuttle: My mother's dead, you little twerp.
Kenny "Squeak" Scolari: [Squeak reads from his hand again] I guess thats why she didn't move around much.
