Default PC Repair in Calgary - recommendations

So my old home PC may have bit it yesterday. I had some weird error message come up, telling me to run CHKDSK. It wouldn't let me do anything, so I rebooted the computer and now it won't load Windows. The message hints at a possible boot sector virus.

Is this something common and fixable? If not, can someone recommend a good repair shop in town? I imagine this is something simple for someone skilled in these things.

Is there a floppy disk in the drive?

If not, IMHO this thread begins and ends with Memory Express. That's where I send people to, and I buy 95% of my stuff there. Fair priced, and great service. They never sell you something you don't need or fudge repairs.

No, no floppy disk.

Just looked up Memory Express, they've got a location near my office. Thanks for the recommendation.

I fix PCs. And I know I'm cheaper than Memory Express.

Whatever you do, NEVER shop/service with Laptop Depot.

I cant echo this enough...I only wish I had known before
my story involves me buying a HP laptop, thing worked just long enough before it died that I could no longer just walk in and return it, but found out it had an extended manufacturer warranty
called HP canada and was promptly told that they couldnt help me because the laptop was a US model, and that I would need to go back to laptop depot...well the box they gave me at laptop depot was for the canadian model, so the canadian model SKU is what shows up on the receipt...none of which match the numbers on my US model laptop

$600 paperweight, wheeeeeee!

I hate Laptop Depot

I do all my own repairs but for other people that I am not in the mood to help I send them there because I know they get treated right.

I recommend getting ERD by Winternals for some "troubleshooting" before you take it in. You can fix a bunch of windows issues from it. search google, and you can find it...
