I thought this deserved it's own thread due to it not being related to the Flames.
I own a Toshiba RD-XS34 PVR/DVD-R that I've had for atleast 4 years. It's always used the TV Guide interface, but has never displayed all the channels available through Shaw (34 - Encore Avenue is one, a big one for me being a movie buff).
Just over a week ago, I noticed that the guide wasn't updating, so I couldn't one touch record any shows. I thought that it was just another piece of electronics dying on me.
Turns out, Shaw doesn't subscribe to the TV Guide on screen service anymore, so I don't get my PVR updated.
Here's the thread where a gentleman in Edmonton found answers, and where I found out what is going on:
Here.
I was tempted to let bygons be bygons, and look past the HD Flames games. But this is absolutely idiotic. It may not affect the majority of you, but this is a service that is paramount in my hardware working effectively.
Now, it's a VCR. I have to progam the date, channel, time, and add time to the standard half an hour to which the guide now shows. Sure, it's what I used to have to do with VHS tapes, but it's not something I expect to do with the technology available.
I'm not happy about this, and according to that post, the rumour is that it's going to be a pay service when it comes back. So the same service that once was free, I will have to pay to make work on my outside party hardware.
Nice work Shaw. I will be actively shopping Bell this week.
