BCS Standings.

Whoever has the highest rank will go to the Big 12 Championship and face Missouri.

I know, and in any year then #7 and #8 can play in the final, so a couple 2 or 3 loss teams beat out 0 or 1 loss teams ... fun!!!

He just hasn't seen it play out so he doesn't appreciate all the screwed up things that can happen in any system. Some people think a playoff is some magical formula that fixes everything ... including the probably if USC having some hope in November after a bad loss.

Your view is a very common one but for some reason only ever applies to college football. Given the difference in schedule strength what really is the diff. between a one loss team and a 3 loss team?

Is it unfair that the NE Pats had to even play in the NFL playoffs? They were by far the best team yet they lost to an inferior one. Should they not, by your logic, have simply been awarded the championship?

The 94 Det Red Wings are the best team ever in the regular season yet they lost in 4 games to the NJ Devils because the Devils used the trap and contained the Wings.

There are so many other examples I could bring up. The purpose of a playoff system is to weed out the weaker teams and allow the best of the best to compete for a championship. College FB doesnt' have this. They let the voted upon best two teams compete. Completely arbitrary.

I can't for the life of me understand why you would support the current, and completely ######ed system that they currently use. Especially since going unbeaten is so important. Texas may only lose to Texas Tech yet even if they are clearly the 2nd best team in the nation they will not make the BCS because another unbeaten team cannot be left out. Even worse was the Michigan vs Ohio State from a few years ago where they most certainly should have played again the the National Championship game and it could not happen because they don't want a rematch in the BCS game.

Not bad points to argue until this one. For two reasons, that game was incredibly important, the entire country watched it and it had a playoff atmosphere. In a playoff that game would have been useless and nobody would care. We had a playoff game, a great one, and you want to just wipe it off the map. Secondly and more importantly what we learned that year is that both teams were no good and had no reason to be in NC contention.

It's different than other sports. The NC is less important or at least should be. I see the biggest problem with the BCS is that it is growing a new set of fans who are fixated on a NC. Who cares, enjoy the holidays and all the bowl games. 26 teams will end their season with a win, a ring from a bowl and the fans will have a big party at whatever bowl they are at.

Why have a NC game then? But because they do, they shoud strive to achieve the top 2 teams playing in it.

Simply out...the current system does not guarentee that.

Like LSU a couple years ago...dont even win their conference but play for the NC. Makes all the sense in the world to the commisioners and yourself...but us dumb laymen dont get it.

I think you're talking about Oklahoma, Transplant99. LSU won their conference in 2003 and 2007.

Oklahoma lost to Kansas State in 2003 but still went on to play in the BCS title game.

Take this for what it's worth, but it's reliable.

Clemson is pursuing Bob Stoops. Bigtime.

they need something big, there is no reason that their program is where it is right now. they always have strong recruiting classes, they should be better, flat out.

not saying they'd get stoops, but they need a proven guy.

Then USC is not worthy of the Rose Bowl, but somehow is worthy of NC contention

Ha, well, I was being sarcastic. Too many USC fans have morphed into playoff fans, about 5 minutes after losing to the Beavs.

So in a 8 team playoff USC would get in, and OSU would not. Guess the system isn't perfect. Maybe they will have to make the playoff 32 teams

Who has ever said that?

Why do you keep bringing it up as a matter of fact? Its been said by myself and several others that at this point they are not part of the NC picture.

But hey...its a great system they have now.... you have reiterated repeatedly.

Big 12 has 5 of the top 13 teams...yikes.

ACC has 3 teams..at 22, 23 and 25. Maryland just beat NC and are behind them. Strange.

unreal LSU is still that high...just not a great team at all.

Their 3 losses are against good teams. Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and took Alabama to OT. Seems like a pretty good team to me. I will concede they haven't really beat "anyone" either.

Sure...but they also got drubbed in 2 of those games. Not even close.

They've beat App. St., North Texas, Auburn, Miss St., South Carolina, Tulane and Troy.

That simply does not scream top 20 team to me....not that it matters much, but it just paralells how horribly flawed the current system is IMO.

Why would you leave OU for Clemson? OU will match any offer and you have a way better chance of NCs at OU. Clemson and Tennessee should focus on Mike Leach imo.
